It's obvious the big clubs get the Classic I, II option (ie CF, UFA) but how are the remaining slots with other teams selected?
Without clubs reporting their win / loss record for parents to see, how can you try and get an idea of who will be initially
tracked I, II for U13's? When do they make the final selection?

Georgia Soccer is often asked. “When will schedules come out?” The process takes at least a month with the goal to have the schedules viewable to parents at least 3 weeks prior to the season. Why does it take so long? Here is how the Classic and Athena schedules are developed – For the Fall season: After the Spring season, every Georgia Soccer Affiliate Member (better known as Clubs) holds tryouts. There is a tremendous amount of movement of players between clubs and even between teams in the same club from the time the spring season ends until a team is set after tryouts. Once tryouts are over, each team makes a commitment for the playing year to the players they select, and the players make a commitment to the team for year. It takes a few months to sort out who is playing on what team. This gets us to about July. After tryouts, in July, every Georgia Soccer member club is asked to “Declare” what teams they will have playing in the Fall season. Many will be existing teams but some clubs have new teams from the previous season and other teams dissolve after the previous season, so no one ever knows what teams will be playing in the fall until a club “declares” them to be playing. These teams also may have different players which may affect what division the team should play in the fall. This is called the team declaration process. Team Declarations for Fall 2015 are due July 15, 2015. Once teams are declared, the State Select Committee takes over. The State Select Committee is led by the chairman who is elected by the Georgia Soccer Clubs at our Annual General Meeting. The Chairman selects two Age Group Coordinators for each age group, one for Classic, one for Athena, to serve on the Select Committee. The Age Group Coordinators are selected because they are familiar with the teams in that age group. Age Group Coordinators review all team declarations and compare that to the teams from the previous season. Based on the teams declaration and the standings from the previous season, the Age Group Coordinator will put together the Classic and Athena divisions for the upcoming season. This process will take into consideration any teams that: did not return, merged, new players, and teams that were promoted to the Regional Premier League (which plays the best teams from other states in the Southeast). The Select Committee then reviews the division placements the Age Group Coordinators recommend. The committee decides all division placements. The Age Group Coordinator then creates the schedules. The schedules are released to the clubs and the teams and then adjusted by the clubs and teams based on field and coaching availability. When all are satisfied, the schedule is released to the public and times and fields are then assigned. This process takes about a month. This is not an easy process and the Select Committee is made up of dedicated volunteers who make this all happen every season. That is how the magic of the soccer season happens! Back |
