Red Diamond Vulcan Cup decided to hold their tournament despite poor field conditions. Our 2 venues (Rathmell and Mountain Brook HS) were particularly poor (waterlogged and muddy). The fields obviously impacted the style of play but I think it taught our players to work through less than ideal conditions to accomplish the task at hand. I think if the tournament were held at either Concorde or GSA, it would've likely been canceled. That probably should've been the call but I think the Vulcan cup has never canceled in 17 years so they likely felt an obligation to keep the streak alive. At the end of the day, our players enjoyed the dirt and grime. As a parent seeing the joy on their faces as they slid all over the pitch was priceless. Seeing them get into my car covered in mud from head to toe, not so much.

We were at Mountain Brook too for one game. That was the worst of the three parks we saw. Several times a player would be dribbling and the ball would just stop - stuck in the mud. Heardmont was a bit muddy but much more playable. Our games would have been canceled if we had stayed in town so I'm glad we went. Thank goodness for a stash of towels in the trunk!

My son played the week before. Amazed on the quality of fields. Kind of wished we muddy fields. I know I used to love playing in the mud. (still do)
Cheers, J4k
