I am inclined to say goal scorer was level with ball when it was played. so not offside, but the camera angle is not ideal for making the final judgement...

does it matter if he started offside a few seconds before the ball was played. look at this still from right at the 1 minute mark on the video, about 2 seconds before balls his passed for the goal

So you can be in an offside position, not infringing, recover to an onside position before the ball is played, and then you are fine. But I am an amateur, not a FIFA official.

zizou is right, it only matters at the moment the ball was passed.
I think this one was so close that the camera angle matters a lot. It would have only been the ball keeping the goal scorer onside, and I think it was incredibly close.

Looks like the ball was played forward so he was offside.

The snapshot posted above is misleading... the person with the ball continued to dribble after that moment. It's quite possible (again subject to camera angle) that the ball was past the goal scorer by the time the ball was actually passed.

At moment pass was made the goal scorer could have been level with the ball.

It does make you realize how difficult it is to pick this up when it's close. Maybe we should give refs more credit. No doubt they miss calls, but during most games they make the right call most of the time.

No doubt they miss calls, but during most games they make the right call most of the time. And not only that, if we are not sitting exactly in line with the ball and/or second to last defensive player (as required for the offside decision), we probably aren't in a good position to question the AR's decision.

Looked quite offside at first.. but the camera angle may conceal that the scorer was even when the pass was made. I guess the AR thought so, and he should have the best perspective of anyone.

Too close to call with that camera angle and the time resolution of the video. The movement is faster than one second intervals so you cant really tell. That being said, when I was watching the game online, I said out loud to no one in the room with me, "he's off". So I think he was off but I'm not in charge. And I'm definitely not going to deny the Silverbacks a goal! ;-)
