Interesting (from Big Soccer):
2015 (Canada): the oldest WWC team ever assembled; whether it pays off or backfires remains to be seen
Average age: 28.9 (by my count; I split the ages for the players, like Boxx, who have birthdays during the tournament)
Oldest player: Christie Rampone, 39.5 (first time one player has been the oldest on two different rosters; also, could be the first 40-year-old to appear for the USWNT at a WWC)
Youngest player: Morgan Brian, 22
Players 30 or older: 9 (Rampone, Boxx, Wambach, Solo, Lloyd, Chalupny, Krieger, O'Reilly, Sauerbrunn)
First WWC: 8 (35% of roster)
I'm not sure what Chalupny brings to the team. She was great at UNC and the U19WNT but all I really remember from her on the full team was some gritty defense. She seems a step off now.
With all of the new and younger players, I didn't see that there are also a whole lot of 30+ players. I give these ladies credit for being able to compete at that level well into their 30's. I agree on Chalupny. She made the squad ahead of Dunn and Van Hollebake. I know Dunn has struggled with injuries, and I'm not sure about Van Hollebake. I didn't see Dunn play much in the friendlies.
