Currently I have a daughter that plays ECNL. It's very expensive. Flying to Phoenix, Dallas and now Seattle for Nationals. She will not be trying out for ECNL next week because of the costs. She wants to play in college but not necessarily D1. She wants to try out for RPL at UFA but I'm wondering if I'm swapping one expense for another. Any RPL parents out there that can give me some insight on your travel schedule? I know you travel a lot by car to Florida, Carolinas but is there a lot of flying all over the place

Yes, UFA will have many rpl games with the option of driving. Depending on the age group, they could be playing in the National league and that depends on where the venues are played at. Some teams play at WAGS and/or Jefferson Cup (college showcase tourneys) which would most likely require flying. But, I would say it's, defineltly, less than ecnl flying expenses. Good luck with your daughter's choice,

RPL is really just car travel and hotels. Only flight we had was WAGS tournament - and you could drive that as well if you wanted to. What age in the Fall?
Some teams may go to some showcase tournaments now that RPL/SPL is less games than last year. That could change it a bit but our coach usually keeps costs in mind when selecting events.

Think no matter what, we will be sticking with whatever team keeps us pretty local. With High School starting, 9 th grade, new opportunities, chamber orchestra ( big deal)!! My pocket may not be blue to handle all that. Going to Greenville, can be a push some years.

Thanks for the input Theres a lot of costs that get split between the families in order to make it more affordable for everyone. If youre really interested in joining that team, i can put you in touch with someone from that team or the coach. Just send me a PM

that # is outrageous esp for U14. that is more than 2x what we paid this past year including club fees, uniforms, etc. + showcases, add'l tournaments, travel, etc. check your facts with others first. there's a way to do it much more economically.

I don't know how a U14 player could spend $9000 on ECNL, especially a player from Atlanta. At U14 there are no required plane trips and many of the games are played in Atlanta. The U14 event is in Greenville. There are also a couple of trips to Florida and a couple of more weekends to play Cesa, Busa and CSA. I do see that GSA did send their U14 team to Phoenix, which was a choice made by the club. Even that trip shouldn't have cost thousands of dollars unless the whole family went. My daughter's team did go to Phoenix, and I went along. The cost for both of us was about $1800. Had I sent her alone it would have been half that amount. Add in $200 for coach expenses and the entry fee and Phoenix and the cost for the player to go was around $1000. ECNL does get more costly during the U15-17 years, and especially U16-17. But, by then more parents are comfortable with letting their girls travel alone, which reduces the cost significantly. If it is costing $9000 to play ECNL at U14, I would look for another club. There are more affordable options both at ECNL clubs and non-ECNL clubs.

AFU is more conservative at U14, only attending the U14 event in Greenville.

The u14 ECNL at our club paid nowhere near $9000. I would have a problem paying that amount, which is a lot. But, most clubs aren't adding in the extra showcases at this age. I did check to see if GSA's U14's are going to Seattle, and they are. That's an expensive trip. But, only sixteen U14 ECNL teams will go to Seattle to compete for the National Championship. That's exciting. It's tough to get the opportunity to compete for the championship. Good luck to them.

Yep I agree. We are doing ECNL for <1/2 that amount including Nationals, 2 showcases and some other tournaments. Seattle is the most expensive but you are right it is a good opportunity. Overall ECNL expenses can be done for nearly same amount as competitive RPL/NL schedules when you consider the top tournaments etc. And the value and competition in my opinion is much better.
