I didn't watch a single minute of the game, but if you can't score against Korea, your team has a problem.....
call me crazy but i think holiday needs to play more of an attacking midfielder. I still believe there are a handfull of older players that would add more value to this roster than morgan brian. i get that brian would be on the squad, but shouldn't be in the starting 11.

I only saw the 2nd half but what I saw was largely unimpressive. No cohesiveness on the attack. They looked like they have run out of ideas out there and that's got to be fixed by Ellis. It wasn't fun to watch at all.

Zzzzz
Snooze fest. After the game was over we watched a recording of the USWNT vs Mexico game to see a more inspired performance. (5-1 USA win)

I am still maintaining a moratorium on discussing the USWNT until there is a regime change. But I will talk about the wonderful strategy of South Korea.
As far as I could tell, they used a brilliant strategy. Make sure you have 6 on the back line because the team they happened to be playing has essentially two strategies. (1) Lob balls into the box so a big, lumbering, but over the hill forward can bump them in with her head (this works well against slow teams with no size, aka Mexico, but it was not working against the South Korean ladies!). (2) Or kick long balls (BOOT IT!) so a fast, strong, but shockingly under-skilled forward (at the level of International play anyway) can run onto them and try and finish (see Mexico again for an example). Everyone also knows the USWNT right back is just terrible in the offense third. She has no offensive skills at all and her crosses are so bad you would be embarrassed to have your U14 daughter show that quality of play. So let them bring the ball up that side, keep that player wide, and keep your defenders with a body on players in the box. You will be fine. Everyone also knows that the USWNT midfielders and forwards lack in creativity if that Rapinoe is not on the field. So they will be unable to break you down if you keep that many players behind the ball. Everyone also knows that the player they have as a holding mid has such a poor work rate and gives the ball away so cheaply that it is only a matter of time before your team will get an opportunity on a counter for a quick strike. Everyone also knows, and this is one of the worst kept secrets in Women's International soccer, the USWNT keeper is way way overrated, so you are going to get excellent opportunities if you do not let their defense get set. I like the way the South Korean ladies played. And they were playing without their most dangerous offensive weapon. They are ready for the WWC!

I found myself going back to my rec coaching days - screaming to motivate movement (at my computer as I was watching online). I have to agree with Zizou - they looked like a U14 team. Reacting instead of being proactive and generally not first to the ball ever. It was disheartening.
And my mantra - when Rapinoe is on the field - GOOD THINGS HAPPEN!

I recorded the match, but found myself watching a college slow pitch tournament (thanks AT&T). I was able to watch about 20 minutes and wasn't inspired by what I saw. The US has been so dominant for so long, I took the World Cup for granted. I was sure we'd do well. I didn't know that we'd win, but I thought we'd be a contender. Now I'm not so sure. I'm hoping for the best. I am hoping Rapinoe is back. Most of all I am hoping Ellis figures out how to coach and inspire this team.

No way FIFA will allow the USWNT to win the WC, I'm sure they will find a way to rig the games...see South Korea in 2002 WC.

I'm still holding out hope that they will find a way to find that magic they have seemed to lost along the way but they aren't striking much fear into anyone with the lead up games.
