You'd have thought by U16 the craziness of multiple tryouts, club hopping, vying for RPL/ECNL/whatever the 'L' else there is spots would be over but it's worse this year than ever before. Clubs/Teams imploding, lots of 'testing the waters', moving hither and yon and OMG it's just freaking YOUTH SOCCER!!!
I just want my kid happy, playing at the best level for her on a team that's less drama filled with cray cray mommas than the last one was. Does that exist? Even she's over it and considering hanging up the cleats for cross country. Several top players on teams we know have done just that - choosing high school CC over the political minefield of club soccer. We've hung at one club all week (new one since our team was one that imploded this year) but it's still stressful. Pretty sure she has a spot - they'll let everyone know tomorrow - but I've seen people rushing to and from tryouts - one father said they did three in one day and would have done four if the two clubs were within closer distance of each other.
Three years left - I know I'll miss it when it's over but right now, having her join the junior varsity tiddly winks team seems like less stress - although I'm sure the world of tiddly winks is pretty cut throat, too! LOL
One more day - one more day. Please no rain - one more day!!!!!

I suspect there will be numerous teams that are unrecognizable compared to last season / year (my daughters' team included)

Sounds about right. I've heard so much from girls coming to our u17 tryouts about teams imploding due to coaches, demotion, parents, or just lack of chemistry. I guess when players hit that 10th grade year they see the end coming and start looking either where to be happy or where to get the most playing time.
Luckily we have three teams and may have to add a 4th team if the trend of more new girls show up tonight. I mean last night before the storm we had girls coming from tophat saying they don't even know where they stand there with the possibility of combining their navy and white teams. I mean that's unheard of right? I mean tophat is the best of the best when it comes to clubs in atlanta. This is where I'm glad I'm just a coach and get to stay out of the politics.
To you sane parents out there good luck and hopefully after signing days you can have a nice tall cocktail to celebrate with.

I'm not familiar with how it works on the guys side...but on the girls side this is nothing new. After U15, it becomes absolute insanity on the girls side. Teams fold, girls quit playing. I think starting at U16, they really start figuring out how far they want to go/can go soccer wise. There are the ones chasing a big D1 scholarship trying to find the best team with most exposure (typically ECNL/Tophat), there are the ones content playing Athena B/C and will just keep playing without really worrying about the outcome and just want to play the game. The toughest ones are the kids who are Athena A/R3PL. They will get looks but maybe not from schools they would be interested in academic wise. Not to mention, the girls start driving/have a little more freedom to socialize outside of soccer and boys really come into the picture

A kid I know's rising U15 CL3 team exploded. Some players (great friends) moved on, higher level. Truly Happy for them. One may make a MUCH higher level team. Stud. Not sure if the club will have enough left to hold their CL3 spot.. haven't been back this week. 3 other clubs we have visited this week seem about the same (just more organized than the small club of the original team). Total turnover everywhere at mid level teams. Evidently some kids quit, some trying to move on up = a ton of movement. I guess this is normal for rising U15's and above? It wouldn't be the worst thing if this kid stopped playing. He still loves the game but not like before - mostly due to parents on the sideline and their incessant vocal hunger for something more. I just hope his spirit (which until now revolved around soccer and the soccer buds).. isn't crushed by the change. On the bright side, getting off that train sure sounds good.

It has been topsy turvy on our boys' team. Day one only a handful showed up for tryouts, then went to different club later in the day. Day two "no one" showed up. Day 3 today and he will make a decision whether to play or to take time off and wait for high school. Yes as mom I am going to watch him ride the wave. I told him its like surfing, and I'm not going to be the mom that asks him when he is coming inside for the day. I'll let him surf and hopefully he will jump off at the right time. Or maybe he will choose higher waves because he might find that in surfing, waves are what its all about. #momlearnseveryday

Everything you have described above already applies....

I have noticed that a lot of kids are doing multiple tryouts...its crazy to me

I don't get the multiple tryouts in one day thing either. We are sticking with our club this year, not too keen on paying another $300 for a uniform this year. High school in the spring and then we will see.m

A mid-grade Adidas set is easily $300.

Our puma kits jersey short and socks. White and navy plus puma training shirt is $150. That's all players are expected to buy. Especially u13 and up since most kids already have bags and warm ups

And mercifully, it's over. 364 days until this crazy train departs again - and trust me, nobody is counting those days down.
On another note, 59 days until school starts - BWA HA HA HA!!! (evil mom laugh)

It's great to have choices, but the choices make it even crazier. It's hard enough at tryouts without worrying about teams imploding.

Speaking of uniforms....anyone know where I can sell the $200 uniform from last year? I asked the league admin if they facilitated uniform swaps, but no response. I'd like to recoup at least a little of my investment. It's the second year, so it's still current.

I'd like to recoup at least a little of my investment. It's the second year, so it's still current. I'd get in touch with the coaches (or better yet team managers) of the age groups that would most likely have someone who wears that size. Coaches' emails are likely on the club website. Contact information for team managers is in Affinity (click into a schedule and then click on a team name, although the manager may change from spring to fall). gs-spr15athenaandclassic.sportsaffinity.com/tour/public/info/accepted_list.asp?sessionguid=&tournamentguid=E1ABEB0B-8D80-4022-BDCC-537896C91697&show=girlsThere are plenty of people out there who'd like to buy a used uniform when there's just one year left in the uniform cycle but sometimes it's not easy to find them.

We don't have that. I helped a few people track down used uniforms last year. A website would have made things much easier. Is that done through your club's website or a separate site?

You can always contact someone from the team you left, whomever is coming into team may want to buy the uniform

Not to be a spoil-sport but any email to a league admin now is likely to be lost in the shuffle - They are working on all the items that are necessary for tryouts and team acceptances (Academy starts this week...)
So anything not related to that kind of activity may be put on the ever growing To-Do list...
