What were everyone's thoughts on the game last night?
First half was frustrating, many solid attempts on goal with nothing coming to fruition. The volley Wambach hit was a rocket...what a great save from Columbia's keeper, the look on Wambachs face said it all like ''how on earth did that not go in'. You could feel the frustration coming from the team having to go to half 0-0. Lloyd was nowhere to be found, through the game I thought "is she even playing" too many times. Holiday I thought was better but will be on the bench Friday.
Second half was what it was. Morgan's early run changed the game (still don't feel as though she is 100%), had the keeper not brought her down it was almost a sure goal. Considering they went man down, I think Columbia played well, got forward a few good times. Once Wambach came off and Brian/Press were on, there were a couple glimmers of brilliant soccer. The combination play was quick and creative. Also, I'm not a huge fan of Chalupney. After the game was over, the vibe was strange. The looks of almost relief/worry for the next round on many of them.
Defense looked pretty solid, only one point in the game where it got very disorganized in the back. They will help to keep this team advancing.
I'm guessing for China Ellis will bring in Brian-CM and Press-OM. I hate Press out wide, she seems out of sorts when she has to play defense in her own half. She just gravitates towards the goal and could be a true striker if they stopped the boom forward mentality.

What were everyone's thoughts on the game last night? I wish we would play cleaner. A lot of bad, intentional, blatant fouls. I can understand a bad tackle, but two handed grabbing and dragging down players by their arms? That's just cheating. No wonder the young kids do the same and young refs don't call it. :-(

The yellows were completely justified and they only have themselves to blame for missing the next round. Colombian keeper should have stayed up and forced Morgan to go wide. Even if she scored, they would have still been in the game 11v11. First goal - Morgan saw the GK cheating over to prevent the cross and shot to the short side - great speed of thought there. Should squeeze by China 1-0 but Germany and France are playing the best soccer of anyone left in the tournament.

I still love this team but I haven't been impressed yet. Johnston finally settled down after that first game -she was booming it out of the back too much in that one - she's solid in the back now. Tobin Heath was off last night in my opinion - she lost the ball more than she controlled it -granted that was more because of Columbia's double teaming and hustle but she passed into pressure too many times.
I did think Holliday's yellow was warranted, she plays very aggressively - almost to the point of being a bulldozer and the 'acting' skills of some of the Columbian's did help out with the fouls called. I'm not as sold on her as Ellis is obviously. I didn't think Rapinoe's was yellow worthy - foul yes, yellow - questionable.
But the whole squad seems flat to me - and last night, Ellis should have pulled Abby out way earlier than she did. Abby's first shot was a beautiful save by the keeper but missing the PK? Really? How does one of the best players in the world miss that shot? And the miscommunication between Abby and Carly Lloyd was ridiculous - several times they literally ran into each other and they completely missed an opportunity on a corner kick.
This team needs to regroup and change up a few things before facing the China and hopefully the rest of the bracket. It's not going to be the cakewalk they thought to get to the final and we may see an upset sooner than later if they keep playing like this.
Love this team but so frustrated with their play right now. And I'm not a fan of Jill Ellis at all. Surely there is a better qualified coach with a better vision to take on the USWNT.

I didn't think Rapinoe's was yellow worthy - foul yes, yellow - questionable. I think it was more for persistent fouling. She had already committed several other fouls before that.

She had been whistled for several. Committed some.. several were pure fakery. I guess that works.
