When do they publish the brackets for the Athena/Classic leagues?
When are the schedules published?
My daughter's u12 Team is playing up and I'm curious when we will get that kind of info.

Probably not until a couple of weeks before the season starts. (Mid-August)

I saw this rule change that's up for a vote at the July SAGM regarding teams playing up. If passed, I wonder if this will affect the ability of some teams to play up.
Existing Rule: 160.2 A team may request to play in an older age group, but not in a younger one. Rule w/ proposed change: 160.2 A team may request to play in an older age group, but not in a younger one. This request must be approved by the Select Committee. How the Rule would read after proposed change: 160.2 A team may request to play in an older age group, but not in a younger one. This request must be approved by the Select Committee. Rationale: There are too many teams requesting to play up in age groups directly with the individual AGC. This action is displacing other teams that have rightfully earned that slot in the correct age group. Current State Cup rules will also be looked at and possibly changed so that these teams do not receive the top seed but the seed after all Classic one Athena A teams are seeded first.

interesting proposal. i looked for this, but could not find any such proposal. also, i don't know of any such teams seeking entrace to C1. most playing up in age, seek up to C2. either way, likely will not prevent top 2 or 3 teams, but will prevent other teams that are more marginal. but those likely would not be allowed up under existing.

Thanks for the link and good catch. Might I suggest you start a new thread on this - its sorta off the OP topic? I know there have been several threads in the recent past discussing at least the U12 boys teams playing up to U13 C2 next year. There were several teams listed, and this would be of interest to several who post here.
Reading the tea leaves of this proposal, here's what I get:
1. the single person in the past making this decision doesnt want to be the only person fielding this issue (makes sense); 2. there are apparently a good number of teams this year applying to play up (probably more than last and a growing trend that they need to get in front of now); 3. i think there will be a good number of disappointed elite U12 teams in a few weeks.

Yeah, I keep coming back to this question. If there are that many teams applying, that feel they are so good that they need to play up a year, why don't they just play each other to get the competition they crave? It's just another gimmick to hook the parents, IMHO.

I can only speak to the Rising u12 Girls...after the top 4-5 teams, there is a fairly dramatic drop off in quality.....AND two of those top 5 teams are from the same club and, I'm told, both are playing up in u13
I agree that it is somewhat of a gimmick, but questioning the club decsion got us nowhere soooooo... we will make the best of the situation. I do think there are some positives in playing up and we will just have to see how the year unfolds.

Try to enjoy the experience. Our club needed to play the U12 premier teams up in order to find competition outside the usual academy friendlies. Atlanta metro super-clubs don't have that problem so much, but they have top-to-bottom first teams that need similar skilled competition.
