I see that at least a couple upcoming tournaments are using a "showcase format" for U15 and up teams meaning that the teams play three games with no finals and no awards. I know there are showcase tournaments where presumably some college coaches watch some games. However, doing this for non-showcase tournaments just seems like a way to keep more of the profits (no refs to pay for a fourth game and no awards to buy). Is this becoming more common?

I wish they would all do this. Playing four games in two days is a terrible idea for the health of the players. Three is still bad, but at least it's better.

If only the tournament price would go down with there being fewer games... local tournaments are getting close to $700/team. I guess one advantage of the showcase format is that the three games can be played over three days giving the kids more recovery time.
