Congrats to these players. Getting 11 boys on the region team is fantastic and will look great on their resumes as they progress in their soccer lives.
I know there are many of debates on DA vs ODP and many people slam ODP on the other forum, but ODP is a fantastic channel for recognition at all levels and the experiences afforded to the players are fantastic. I was fortunate to be a chaperone at region camp for several years and it was a privilege to see the camaraderie between the players (behind the scenes) and get to know many of my son's teammates and coaches. Regardless of what anyone else says on the other forum, JD and the ODP coaches do a great job and are all very dedicated.

I believe 7 GA 03's were named to the 2002 region pool, GA had the most total.

We just got out of closing ceremonies a bit ago, the total was 18 I believe for the 2002 Pool from GA, I don't know the 03's that well as I was working with the 02's this past weekend. Think final number was 11 02's and 7 03's

US Soccer has actually admitted (privately) that DA is not the be all and end all of their recruiting talent to National teams. The have renewed their interest in ODP. They have finally realized that there are talented players who for one reason or another will never play on a DA team, so instead of limiting their recruitment to only DA players they have once again started to pay attention to ODP.

Dreaddy,
I think that's a good thing. Having watched a handful of boys who were CL4 at U13 get selected to join a rising U15 RPL team, it is clear to me that a wider net, not a smaller one, should be used in the identification process.
Another example..
I know an ECNL player who outperformed everybody (not conjecture, she was given an award) at a D1 university's 2015 summer ID camp, only to be told that she won't be offered a spot... because another girl is 20 pounds heavier and hasn't had a knee surgery.

Having watched a handful of boys who were CL4 at U13 get selected to join a rising U15 RPL team, it is clear to me that a wider net, not a smaller one, should be used in the identification process. That's exactly what the USSF coaches have come to realize. The original thought was that no one would be able to resist the DA, so all the best players would naturally end up there. They found out that it just doesn't work like that in real life. There are excellent players who aren't interested in DA, but who will still take part in ODP. There is no single, simple path to be followed when trying to select the best of the best.

Yea. I mentioned that in another thread. I've spoken to many quality older players that just didn't enjoy DA.

It is a real shame that DA players don't get to experience HS soccer.

They have finally realized that there are talented players who for one reason or another will never play on a DA team, so instead of limiting their recruitment to only DA players they have once again started to pay attention to ODP. I wish these organizations would take a more "player centric" approach than just looking at this from a national team identification perspective. From what I've seen, most DA players (and their parents) are more focused on college recruiting than playing for the National team, especially since so few players make it to the national level. I think what players want (and need) are better channels for exposure to top college coaches with hopes to gain D1 scholarships. If ODP could help fill this gap, I would think more kids would play and stay with ODP. Obviously, ODP would need to extend the program through HS years, but a strong ODP program combined with the ability to play HS would be a compelling reason for kids to stick with their clubs team, rather than leave for DA.
