I wonder why less GA boys made it this year than last year?? An argument could be made for DA, but there's DA everywhere not just GA. Last year 19 '01 Boys were picked, this year only 5?.....last year 16 '00 boys were picked and this year only 9. In the girls side last year 15 01's were picked and this year 17, so the numbers are more consistent. They still picked between 50-60 kids for those pools
Girls 2002- 21 (1 '03) 2001- 17 2000 - ? 1999- ? 1998- 9
Boys 2002- 19 (7 '03) 2001- 5 2000- 9 1999- 7 1998- ?

At the older age groups DA is impacting the turnout of quality players that would likely participate in ODP. In other states the DA programs may not be in close proximity geographically or not cost effective so you will fun some of the other states are able to retain their best players in ODP.

This one is relatively easy--many of the '01 boys who made it last year are playing DA or just didn't go to the camp. Additionally, Georgia only took 21 players this year, as many decided to not attend when they were told DA players would not be picked for pool games.
To understand, you have to go back to last year with the '00s. Georgia took their group to camp and many were picked, only to end up playing DA that fall. Those players could not participate in Region ODP events, so the Region was left with a depleted player pool. Region III staff aren't stupid, so this year they decided to pick a pool of kids who are not in DA. Many of the stronger 01s in Georgia are playing DA in the fall, thus were not eligible to play for the Region. Many of the stronger '00 boys were playing DA this past year so were not in the ODP program to be able to go to Region Camp. Accordingly, you get a weaker group of '00s and '01s at region camp.
From what I can see, the Region is trying to run a program where they train their players on the 10 principles of possession soccer and the skills needed to carry them out. They are not interested in just giving out T-shirts so kids can put "Region Pool" on their resume on their way to DA.
Personally, I like what they are doing, and believe they are making a strong case for an alternative to U14 DA for the kids born in 2002 (and who make the Region pool).
