Add your questions and answers as replies, and I'll try to keep this up to date. In Athena and Classic (Select) games, sometimes a score is shown as CC, CS, or CSC. What is that?
Scores and other game data are entered by the team managers of BOTH teams. The required data includes the game score and a listing of any cards (yellow and/or red) that were issued during the game. For the cards, the player, the type of card, and the reason for the card must be entered. If any of the information entered by the two team managers does not match, then the entry is considered "contested". This rarely actually means that it is contested, just that someone put the information in incorrectly. CS means the score didn't match, CC means the entered cards don't match, and CSC means both the score and card information don't match. What is the "Club Pass" system that allows players to play with other teams at their club during the regular season?Within his or her own club, a player can "guest play" with a higher level team. If the teams are the same age level, the player has to play UP a Classic/Athena level. If the other team is older, then that team has to be the same or higher Classic/Athena level. Players can only play for one team on any given day, and only three club pass players can be used in any game. The full details are very intricate, and a full description can be found here: www.georgiasoccer.org/assets/pdfs/Club_Pass_Policy.pdfWhat are all these things I keep hearing about? Academy, Select, Athena, Classic, DA, ECNL, R3PL, RIAS, ODP, NPL, Super Y, etc.?Academy - U9 through U12 players who generally train more and play more "serious" soccer than recreational players at the same age. There are generally tryouts, though my understanding is that generally nobody is turned away. Select - U13 through U19 players who generally train more and play more "serious" soccer than recreational players at the same age. This is sometimes called "travel soccer" although the term is not quite accurate. Athena - select soccer for females. Generally levels are from "Athena A" (the top) through "Athena F" Classic - select soccer for males. Generally levels are from "Classic 1" (the top) through "Classic 5" ODP - Olympic Development Program, a training program for selected players - www.georgiasoccer.org/odp/odp_frequently_asked_questions_faq/ECNL - Elite Clubs National League for U14 through U18 girls - www.eliteclubsnationalleague.com/RPL (aka SRPL) is Regional Premier League for full Region III (South): schedules for 2013 are at events.gotsport.com/events/default.aspx?EventID=32489PLE is Premier League East (formerly known as R3PL or R3PLE): schedules for 2013 are at events.gotsport.com/events/default.aspx?EventID=32493NL is National League (top teams across USYS regions and different from NPL): www.usyouthsoccer.org/national_league/DA or USSF DA - The US Soccer Federation Development Academy - a high level national league with teams at U13/U14, U15/U16, and U17/U18 levels - www.ussoccer.com/teams/development-academy/academy.aspxNPL - National Premier League - www.usclubsoccer.org/main.aspx?sec_id=14&guid=93a5666b-2339-4505-acfa-cbce7e8bbd65Super Y - A summer league run by US Youth Soccer - supery.uslsoccer.com/RIAS - A recreational league with inter-club scheduling - www.georgiasoccer.org/programs/recreational-soccer.aspx

Added a link for Academy vs Athena/Classic. For the other stuff... want to take a stab at writing some of it? My view of academy was limited by the club where my kid played, and I don't think everyone does academy the same. Club pass is a great idea, but I know the rules are highly technical. Maybe a TM or coach here could write something up? I'll edit it into the original post.

Club pass is a little confusing, the gist really is, kids can't play down, they can only play up. i think most clubs have good descriptions of academy, so don't think we need to waste the space here. The link i think answers the questions! thanks for sharing .
i'm sure the thing that will come up on the forum is pooling vs not pooling players at the academy system.

I edited club pass a little bit. I think the main points are covered, and then the link gets the details if people really want them. As to the pooling question, do you want to take a shot at writing a question/answer for it?

Can someone explain the specific (if any) penalties for red and yellow cards - to the team not the individual player? A team in our bracket has six yellow cards - will any points be deducted from their final standings for that? Yellow cards have 0 points but it seems to me if a team starts racking them up consistently throughout a season, there should be some repercussions.

Our ref tonight made us switch corners on a corner kick. The play that resulted in the corner kick was a shot on goal, and it cleared the top of the goal almost dead center. Is there a rule on which corner you have to take it? Goalies can switch up where they take goal kicks.

Is there a rule on which corner you have to take it? Goalies can switch up where they take goal kicks. A corner kick is to be taken at the corner on the side where the ball went out. For a ball that went out wide to the goal, that's usually easy. For one that went out dead middle over the crossbar it's up to the referee to decide which corner to take it from.

So does a team start off at PLE and then if they win they go on to RPL or is it two diff things?
RPL (aka SRPL) is Regional Premier League for full Region III (South) PLE is Premier League East (formerly known as R3PL or R3PLE)

RPL (aka SRPL) is Regional Premier League for full Region III (South) PLE is Premier League East (formerly known as R3PL or R3PLE) I believe that is the case, although teams still play in both when they make it to RPL. Matches against RPL opponents who are also in PLE (for example TH v. UFA), count in both leagues.

It is all very confusing and additionally so because right now there are two different tracks for the Premier Leagues.
The Old Track: This is for the U14's up. The top 3 teams in PLE get an automatic place in the RPL the following year. They still play in the PLE however. PLE consists of 4 states: GA, FL, NC & SC.
The New Track: This will start with this year's U13's and follow that age group and subsequent age groups. PLE will be divided into North and South divisions with 3 states in each. We will have GA, FL & AL. Each state can have 0, 2 or 4 teams in the division. The top teams move up to RPL, the bottom teams are sent back to their state league - relegation and promotion!
This simplification may not explain it all for you, but I hope it helps.

it does explain it better...thank!! but I guess my new question now is what is SPL? is that just another name it goes by?

SPL was last year's name (Southern Premier League). Now it's RPL (Regional Premier League) as opposed to PLE (Premier League East). I'll fix that...

Awesome breakdown! What/Who/How determines the league strength?
|
|
|
Post by atlfutboldad on Apr 16, 2019 22:43:06 GMT -5
It was sorta arbitrary based on observation. Like i mentioned, the biggest debate would be NPL/SCCL/NL. Undoubtedly the top teams from a lower league can beat the bottom teams from the next league up.
But it's arbitrary based on my kids age group. U13G. Admittedly that is the primary depth of my experience.
I have seen my kid play with/against or watched teams that play at all levels in U13G: ECNL (AFU/NTH/SSA/GSA), NPL (AFC/SSA), NL (AFC/IAFC/Impact/Roswell), SCCL (Concorde/UFA), Athena A & C (too many to mention).
