Another quality read by Will Parchman A message to American coaches: Is there an ideologue among you? www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminute/2015/10/a-message-to-american-coaches-is-there-an-ideologue-among-you/"Be different. Break molds. Raise two pointed fingers to the system and laugh at its inefficiency while you coach around it. But most importantly, be you. There is not enough bold in the world for me to convey that in that way I’d like to. As Americans, we have been defiantly clutching our 4-4-2s and our win-at-all-costs philosophies and our boring approaches for decades and it is time they burned upon the pyre of personality. If we were all truly our authentic selves as coaches, we’d be unreachable."

Loved that article. I remember having such high hopes for Caleb Porter when he came into the league. However, now I really don't like his style of play, he doesn't develop young talent at all, and complains at virtually all his press conferences.
I think a problem could be that most of our coaches come from the tutelage of Arena, Bradley, or Schmid. All great coaches, but relatively conservative coaches tactically. Owners also may be reluctant to take a flyer on a coach who doesn't fit a certain mold

"Porterball" the really attractive attacking soccer which he directed at Akron appears to be dead and buried. Too bad.
