Coach/parents screaming at the ref the whole time about shielding, etc. There wasn't any rough play going on or anything like that. Seemed to be a seasoned ref, very calm under pressure, however the coach ranted and raved because his team was getting beat badly. Finally pulled his team off the field and forfeited. I have never seen such a horrible display of bad sportsmanship. What a bad example to set for 7-9 year olds. I have never experienced a team leaving the field, especially for a young team like that. I think coaches who do this should be suspended or something. totally ridiculous.

Shielding and defending using the (legal) shoulder is hard for the uninitiated/uninformed to get used to. Especially at young ages. They look like they are getting pushed around.
The better teams train this very early. I wish I knew this when mine were small.
I'd like to know the club, and the coach. A coach who let's the parent sideline go crazy, is not a coach anyone needs.

Dirty Sanchez, have pulled his team off last spring at UFA. I never did get the real story on that situation. Everyone loves to blurt out the headline (and the terribly clever nickname) but nobody could tell what really happened.

It is the senior academy coach at a large, established club. Definitely someone who should know better. I would never let my child play for this coach after seeing this....too bad because it might have been an option in the future.
I don't think I have ever seen a shielding call for 7-9 year olds. Some refs also won't call a lot of hand balls or pass backs to goalies for the little guys. I didn't see the shielding he was yelling about though. I am amazed that some refs continue to ref with the way they are treated. Yes we have witnessed some very bad refs.....but so many refs are cursed, yelled at and put down the entire game!! Reffing is not an exact science. Even before he can get the whistle in his mouth they are screaming at him.

If the ref wanted to push the issue or the opposing club wanted to push the issue, I do believe that a suspension would be handed down by Ga Soccer, I believe there are rules governing situations like this.

Crazy! having a u10 child, I'm stunned at reading this. the only reason our coach would ever pull the kids off the field is if it was blatantly obvious that the kids were in danger because of dirty play. It would have to be bad, very bad. Other than than, its u10, the outcome and result of the game is meaningless. Who cares if you win or lose, its how you play. I don't care about results (except in tourneys). I've walked away from ties and loses feeling great.
But walking off the field, hopefully their is more to this story.

Please submit with club, time, and place to psycho parent of the week thread. Maybe it needs to be psycho parent / coach of the week.
