If the new Atlanta mls team also has u12,u13 and u14 DA why would GA United exist? Doesn't make sense. Big loss for UFA ssa and NASA top players. Many families are content with not switching clubs and GA United made sense and worked for the most part. Many quality kids were being excluded already from ga United, now it's even going to be worse.
The really good news- Classic and rpl will gain many quality players and kids can go back to enjoy playing state cups etc.

Being new at a GA United affiliated club, I saw this as major benefit for top tier players even knowing the reality is only a handful of kids from each year actually make the roster. I see the MLS academy becoming more of a destination club for kids outside of the ATL and this recent news not being positive for the alliance clubs. The alliance clubs/coaching staffs will have no say in player selection or really referrals of quality players.
Anyway the entire DA thing seems to be misguided if its intent is to develop players for the national teams. As @soccerhouse posted, we are talking about a single player per year on average making these teams. If the intent really is that, than retraction isn't the answer and expansion is. You can't honestly say that of the 2 current DA u16 squads for example that their isn't 5 to 10 players not on those teams that deserve to be there.
Overall its disappointing and the younger boys really enjoyed seeing the DA players around and training because it really gave them a goal to work hard and they think its "special". (even if its not)

You are correct. In my opinion DA does little to improve players that they won't get with their clubs. The one aspect I don't understand is why they aren't allowed to play with their High schools with the players they have known in many instances since they started elementary school. There are only 4 current USMNT players with any ties to DA further putting into question its effectiveness.

I think the reality is the "decision" impacts very few kids and there are/were many kids for various reasons that have been left off DA rosters. The biggest issue I see, is the fact that US Soccer adds u12 & u13s, so you will have kids play u12, u13 and u14 now, but when they age up to u16 from the u14 roster very few kids will make the squad because they will be the younger half. Thats a big big problem.
Sorry for the tangent, but I'm sure folks at the NASAs, UFAs, SSAs would like to here/read on why this is positive for them to drop DA. Yes, DA costs a lot of money to run ~ $5,000 to $7,000 grand a kid, but they have been paying for it for a few years now with minimal sponsorship and my guess is they aren't operating in the red. The Atlanta United DA program is going to be nuts - will GSA/KSA and even concorde encourage their top players to go out for it. Will it be an invite only type of situation? What about the impact that out of town players might have on the program, given you already have families that have moved to the atlanta area to play DA.
If the future of DA is only MLS DA, then US Soccer will never become what they want it to become. Remember a few years ago, the herman trophy award winner on the boys side, elected for med school vs soccer career. Brilliant decision!!
