Ran into this situation yesterday in our game:
Opposing player goes down and every player on their team immediately took a knee. Our coach has instructed our team's players to stand or move to the center of the field to allow the injured player to receive attention.
Other team's parents and coach went ballistic yelling at our team to take a knee and parents called our players rude and disrespectful.
Just curious - what does your team do?

They sometimes don't react much until the parents and coach tell them to take a knee. Some of the players will put the ball out the side if they are aware a player is down and they think it is legitimate.

I'm asking not to be cynical.. But think of it this way: have you ever seen a pro, college, or even high school team "take a knee"? I haven't. My kids coach once said that it's a rec tradition, and it's one that I am ok with when you are playing six a side. But on a bigger field, especially 11v11 - and somebody gets hurt, it's time to get some water and talk with your teammates. Give the injured player respect, but give the "mandatory knee taking" a rest. The place for that is kiddie soccer, up to U10 at the latest. Your mileage may vary.

I agree with your point rifle - last time I witnessed this until yesterday was U12 against a weaker team. Yesterday was a surprise considering the club and being their second team. Which is why I asked the question - it was odd seeing that again yesterday

They should learn the sporting thing to do which is kick the ball out if they believe the player is really injured. Then the other squad should learn to return possession in an equally sporting manner. The knee thing outlives its usefulness past U8. In every other way they are supposed to be learning to play big person soccer. Why not in this way as well?

Our team hasn't taken a knee since playing rec. I never even saw it when my daughter played Academy. In fact, it was then that the coach told them not to take a knee and instead to stand in place. Now, the players stay in place if it doesn't look too serious. If a trainer or the other coach comes onto the field they move to the side, get a drink of water and take the opportunity to get a bit of coaching for the coach. I will say that in the six years since we left rec, I have only seen a couple of teams take a knee and that was during the first year of 11x11. Now, it never happens. Chalk it up to some naive parents who don't know that their definition of soccer etiquette probably isn't accurate.

As a coach I don't let my players take a knee for any reason. I do however, ask them to clap for the injured player when they get up. I want my players to gather together and talk about what needs to happen in the match.

They should show respect and not stand around laughing or anything disrespectful. But, discussing the game and stretching makes way more sense that taking a knee and letting yourself get tight.

taking a knee past U8 is stupid imo.....Just get your team together at the bench or in another area of field to stretch or wait....there is always that one parent screaming for the kids to take a knee....at U14? dumbest thing ever.
