So, the pessimist in me wants to know what are the benefits of a youth club like UFA purchasing a stake of a 4th division professional team are for its "members/players".
From UFA's webpage -UFA is devoted to providing a developmental structure along with quality instruction for children ages 3-18. In order to experience the game of soccer at every level, we offer various programs within the club: recreational, academy, select and TOPSoccer; which encompass each child’s soccer potential. We also offer an adult league for people over the age of 18.
Keeping in mind that UFAs former DOC was an assistant coach with the silvervacks first team last year and the head coach of the silverbacks kids play at UFA-Norcross, I
saw no direct benefit from this/these relationships
Many have asked me this question, and I could think of many different ways those resources could be used within the current club. Granted its not clear at this time if UFA has a financial investment in the silver-backs or just a managerial one.
This assumes a financial stake indeed has been made.
I'll offer possible other alternatives the way $ could have been spent and then start the list of potential benefits of such a relationship.
- reduction in player annual fees
- assistance with tournament fees and travel expenses
- increase salaries and/or develop incentives for coaches that could earn them more $$
- help assist in expenses with Georgia United and retainment of u16s/u18s
- cover coaching expenses and per diems for coaches
- increase coaches education and cover costs associated with education
- reduce costs of uniforms
- purchase soccer balls and other equipment for coaches
- develop/produce share curriculum
- video tape and review sessions and game film
- staff retainment
- increase scholarships and help assist with scholarship players travel and tournament expenses
- purchasing fields/land for fields.
The potential benefits -
-access to the Silverbacks training facility, stadium field and surrounding fields. Previously required rental fees for use, you have to assume they still will.
-access to players on the team for camps, coaching and other routine coaching functions.
-coaches have ability to learn and coach at hire level.
-ability to gain ownership of team while its value is probably at a low, and their is plenty of room for growth for the Silverbacks to once again regain NASL or USL status and become a bigger player in the professional soccer scene.
Lastly, I apologize for my Pessimism on this subject and tell me I"m an idiot or fool!
