If you dig through johns creek strategic plan at www.johnscreekga.gov/QuickLinks/City-Plans/Recreation-Parks-Strategic-Plan.aspx
you will see they were looking for a potential athletic sports complex - 50 to 100 acres. I assume the property at Cauley Creek is this property.
From page 96 of their strategic plan:
PROPOSED NEW PARKS (LAND TO BE ACQUIRED)
Tournament Complex
Targeted as an acquisition parcel between 100 and 200 acres, the first 100
acres of the proposed Tournament Complex Park should be used to provide
enough multi-use fields to allow for tournament play. If a full 200 acres are
acquired for the Tournament Complex Park, the additional uses will relieve
current deficits in other types of athletic fields. The park can also provide other
active and passive opportunities responsive to input received from stakeholders
and residents, and provide space for a much needed indoor center.
The recommended program elements for this type of park addition include:
x Sixteen multi-purpose rectangular fields arranged in four-field
complexes
o Four artificial turf fields with lighting in one four-field complex
o Twelve natural grass fields in three four-field complexes – at
least one of which should have a cricket overlay (see diagram
in the Appendix)
x Field house with bleachers adjacent to the turf fields
x Concession/restroom buildings
x Six lighted ball diamonds suitable for tournament play
x Two outdoor basketball courts
x Two lighted multi-purpose courts
x Two sand volleyball courts
x A 40,000 square foot indoor recreation center
x A Frisbee golf course
x Dog park
x Three playgrounds
x Three spare picnic shelters
x Two miles of walking/bike trails
x Two restroom buildings
x Parking for 800 cars in four separate 200 car lots
x Maintenance facility
