So, my daughter (U12) attended tryouts at two different clubs and got offers from both. The club she accepted (the club she has been with since U9) just notified us that now, there is no team. A LOT of girls must have turned down offers so everything shifted. Contacted the other club that offered...their roster is now filled. What do we do now? Thanks.

Thanks. First off - welcome and I love your user name! Thanks for the giggle there. Second - your situation - I'm sorry this happened but I'm confused -U12 is academy - did the entire pool go away at the club you were with or was this an Athena U13 tryout? Most teams aren't full with 18 - coaches may just not want a team that large. So here are my suggestions: 1 - the coach at the club you were with - will he make any calls on your daughter's behalf? Does he have any suggestions for a kid who is now 'team-less'? 2 - is there an option to play up with an older team at your home club? Will the DOC help you with this? 3 - the other club - any other teams there? Playing up as an option? 4 - what other clubs besides these two are in your geographic area? this really stinks but it happens more often than you think and with all the changes this year, I'm not surprised. But on the flip side of that, surely there are clubs/teams that still need players. You may have to start calling DOC's at other clubs and explain the situation - it'd have more clout if your coach or current DOC would do it but I have seen situations where they just wash their hands of the whole thing and let kids land where they do. Good luck. What part of town are you in?

Yes, sorry...the team that got "pulled" was U13 Athena C. This club doesn't play in the pool format for any age group though. The C-Team coach is trying to get her on the Athena B team as she played for him last year too and he said she was his "strongest player", but I fear that if the B Coach didn't want her before, and is being forced to take her, she will be a bench-warmer. I also do not feel confident he will take her anyway as he has made it clear that he doesn't like other Coaches interfering on the building of his team. Plus, we haven't heard from him yet so I don't think we are going to.
We could try other clubs but with three kids playing (other two are staying with the original club) and both parents working, I don't think we could handle the commute. I don't think she is a strong enough player to play up an age group. She was one of those kids that went from U11 to U13 with the mandate and she seems to be falling through the cracks. The DOC at the original club is completely worthless. I think we will call the DOC at the second club to see what can be done. Two coaches she has done individual training with just went over there and maybe they can help. Thanks for the advice!

Yikes! Sorry to hear about this but sadly it happens way to frequently. I'd definitely reach out to the DOC to see if he knows any teams needing players. I know my club still has openings for our U13 Athena C and D teams so im sure others do too. As a coach and one with 3 in the club too I completely understand trying to get kiddos to every where they need to be.
