Is it me or has this just been the craziest tryout year of soccer yet. Tryouts was so stressful and my kids all made decent teams. There were disapointments, but in the end my girls can work hard and move forward.
I have a couple of soccer mom friends that are hurting for their kids that didn't make a team at all or made a lower team then expected. At tryouts, I've seen girls leaving the fields crying because they were cut.
We moved clubs because it was time for my kids to move on but so many had to leave because teams were picked apart by the manadate. Now scrabbling around looking for a team to call home. Girls that have been with thier clubs since u9. Several of us just wasn't ready for this craziest.

It is what it is and was what it was.
But yes - this short sighted 'fix' for what essentially only affects .01% of all youth players in the long run had some far reaching repercussions for the 99.99% of kids - especially at the older age groups and especially for girls.
Considering how 'stellar' the USMT has performed recently, great move USYS (wiping the sarcasm from the screen). Remind me again how girls quitting the sport at 15 and 16 years old will strengthen the national teams???
It will be interesting to see the brackets when GA Soccer puts that out sometime in August - how many small clubs' teams are just gone now??

I think the Athena/Classic brackets will be crazy this fall and DOCs will do more lobbying than usual to get the placements they want. Unfortunately for the older kids, the brackets won't stabilize until they play again next fall.
I know of a few small club teams that ended up getting stronger. They didn't have much choice but to keep their teams together and were able to pick up a few new players. Whether they'll be able to compete down the road with teams that followed the age mandate remains to be seen but at least initially they'll have the advantage of having played together for multiple years.
Somehow things ended up being relatively stress free for my kids but that definitely wasn't the case for all of their teammates.

I am just reflecting on everything now since the dust had all settle. I know tryouts are over, but some players are still looking for teams to play with in the fall. I think it was so stressful for me because I had players ranging from 2006 to 2000. It was a long 2 weeks. All that and I must admit that I still don't undestand the philosophy behind it all.I read that the mandate is for the betterment of the USNMT, but I am not sure how.

My kid was completely shoved aside because of politics. It was pretty rough loyalty lesson for a middleschooler and the entirely opposite evaluation at every other club where our youngin' saw the front of the line. Sometimes it's just not about soccer.
I hope DA status for certain clubs changes the landscape from the current recruit-fest crazy town to development being part of the equation.

Curious if anyone involved with preseason tournaments can share how all the craziness with this year being so uncertain with teams has affected them. We have still not even been told what (if any) in which we may be participating.
