For those of you with older select kids, do you have any pointers on a GK playing in the full sized goal?
My child is occasionally playing 11v11 (so u12/u13) and invariably most every goal given up this season has been a high shot just under the crossbar. IMO they are not playing out too far as obviously it would be really easy to get chipped, just not able to do anything with the really high shot.
Is it just a matter of "dealing with it" at this age, knowing in a couple more years as he/she grows this won't be as big an issue?
I've talked to the coach and gk coaches and not gotten much support outside of the "wait a couple years" answer.
Thanks in advance.

Deal with it, wait a couple years :-)
Until then, get some physical training to work on vertical leap, which can usually be improved dramatically in just a couple months. Consider a real trainer, and check their references.

Look into the LDGA camps. www.ldgacamps.com/This is outstanding for goalie training. Their website says they will have a winter mini-camp in January.

Soccerdad1, let your child deal with the coaches over performance issues. It seems the coaches are not bothered by the goals, so you should not be. The temptation to hover can be great, don't give into it and your child will have a more rewarding experience and enjoy the sport more.
