what is everyone's opinion on this tournament? How does it compare to the Disney Showcase?

Difficult to compare the two, if you are in the top divisions at Disney you will get a lot of exposure to college coaches (which is why we go right), there are also International teams to watch and possibly play against which is a good experience. CASL is a good tournament with many levels to play at, you won't see many coaches unless you are in the top division unfortunately, unless your coach has an in with some and can get them to come and watch a particular player

Apples to Oranges comparison for a number of reasons including the sheer size of the tournament - more divisions at CASL than at Disney and the geographic location of the coaches attending - Disney has more FL coaches - CASL attracts from other states further north. Plus they are at different times of the year - early December versus over New Years so how many coaches go to both?
That said - I have heard that some college coaches are following the NCAA lead and not going to NC for tournaments. No idea how much truth is in that but one coach we've been talking to said he will not attend CASL and is going to tournaments in Tennessee (assuming Germantown) and Texas (assuming FC Dallas).

In the 6 years that I've been to recruit at CASL, the overall level of teams has definitely dropped as has the "prestige" factor associated with recruiting at the event. Overall it's still very helpful to get to see teams from Virginia and further north for us and still has plenty of "bang for the buck" with so many teams there in attendance.
More and more of the higher level D1's are passing on the event though over the last couple of years, but the same is true at Disney over the past couple of years (though the level at Disney overall is a little higher than CASL). I've had a few peers ask me to watch players for them as they are passing on attending it to commit more resources to Disney/DA Showcase events in December instead.
Still plenty of D3's, D2's and smaller profile D1's (plus NAIA of course) in attendance so you will see plenty of coaches out there at CASL.

Any opinions on the Orange Classic in Ft. Lauderdale? We are headed there over the winter break?

Any opinions on the Orange Classic in Ft. Lauderdale? We are headed there over the winter break? Check the ECNL schedules - last year that tournament conflicted with a big ECNL event in Florida and coaches opted to attend that instead.
