It was a heck of a game. Skill and intensity all over the field. Chile had lots of excellent chances. Some beautiful combination play. La Roja crash the goal with fury. I love watching them play.
Good to remember that this was Germany's second team (their SECOND TEAM!) that beat the two time defending Copa America Champions. Put a bunch of young hungry and talented players out there, given them a chance, and they got something pretty good. Die Mannschaft looked shaky in possession at times in the tournament, but they were so solid along the back that they were able to escape catastrophe. Forwards tracking back constantly and then still getting into attack. Nevertheless, Germany have a deep well of fussball talent. Maybe because they created a bottom up development system rather than a top down heavy system that forgets about grass roots. What county might have done the latter?

No doubt.
Think we see a rematch next summer?

And as their Prospect Team was making their way to the Confederation Cup trophy, their U-21s were taking home the u-21 Euros too. Now that's a stacked national team.

No doubt. Think we see a rematch next summer? I doubt it will be in the Semis or the Final. Has any Country won the Confederations Cup and then the ensuing World Cup? Although Germany did use very few guys who will be with Die Mannschaft next summer. With their string of deep runs in tournaments over the last few summers, Chile's star players are racking up serious mileage. You keep making withdrawals and at some point payments come due. Especially considering the way they play. I would be surprised if Chile can keep up this intensity for another whole year.

Several teams have won the World Cup and then the ensuing Confederations Cup, but no team has won the Confederations Cup and then the WC the follow year.

That's what worries me so much about Alexis (besides him possibly leaving Arsenal lol). This is 4 straight summers his team has been in tournaments and in the finals of the last three. No summer off next year either. On day Chile is going to send him back in a full body cast. Chile's medical staff? Broke leg? No problem, just put some tape on...ok to play. Germany's young roster looked really impressive. One things for sure...when the likes of Ozil, Kroos and Mueller move on they won't skip a beat. One comment regarding the game. That elbow was a straight red all day long. Stepped into the player with full intent. VAR did really well in the tournament but missed that badly.

That was an exciting match but what is the point of having the replay and then still not calling a deliberate elbow to the face? There is a lot of talent on that German team but I think Khedira, Özil and Boateng looked stronger in 2009 than these players. Stindl and Kimmich looked the most promising from the U21 group. I don't see how Werner can be the best U21 striker they can find and Rudiger will be in for a rude awakening if he goes to Chelsea this summer. Both ter Stegen and Leno were disappointing. I have always rooted for ter Stegen, a true story of 'local boy makes good' with my boyhood club before he signed with Barcelona. But he seems to have a lot of potential without taking that next step. I also understand that the role of keeper has changed dramatically but the main role of a keeper is still to stop shots and not the ability to perform a rainbow in the 6 yard box. He looked weak on at least one cross and his inability to hold on to the ball is maddening, often providing additional chances to the opponent. As one of my coaches once said: a lot of keepers can stop a shot, but only the best ones can hold on to the ball
