I haven't been on the boards in a while. There is quite the buzz on the old forum about the picks for R3PL spring season, particularly with the decision to take the 7th place Concorde Fire boys team over 4th place Ambush (and 5th place GSA 01 and 6th place NASA). Just curious if anyone knows what happened there. For those interested, here's a link to the spring R3PL boys season: events.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=35556&Gender=Boys&Age=14

That makes zero sense to me. On the girls side, it was 1-4 - Top Hat. UFA Elite, Ambush and NASA Elite. Why on earth would a seventh place team get RPL over the fourth place one? Can Ambush appeal? Unless Ambush, GSA and NASA all imploded, Concorde shouldn't have even been in contention.
Strange bedfellows in GA soccer, I tell you . . .

The decision to take Concorde was made by the Region. Georgia put Ambush up as our 4th pick, but the Region decided to go with Concorde instead based partially on their play in National League.

Never seen / heard anything like this before in all my years.
Unless, the rules have clearly changed...?
If not, this is absurd, and looks foul, and should probably be appealed by the clubs who got shafted and investigated and dealt with regionally. It puts a new meaning to "earn" vs. "membership privileges" of the so-called "elite".
The USYS model is one of the few remaining leagues (Local/Classic, R3PL/PLE, SPL/RPL, NL) that any team from any club can get on the pitch (season after season), and let players' hard work, and team results (regardless of club affiliation) decide promotion/relegation. Every season, a new team has this opportunity as the playing field levels out, giving each team/club a chance at promotion based on merit.
If indeed foul, this would be a real shame..

Completely agree with soccerpapi. Each team should earn their spot, not be "assigned". Something doesn't "smell" right.

This is the first time there has been National League for U14, thus the first time something like this has come up. In the past there would have been no question, teams 1-4 get in.
There is a possibility that if Concorde wasn't taken on the basis of National League, two Florida teams could have gotten the wildcards so our #3 team, Ambush and Concorde would have all been on the outside looking in. Remember that this is a regional league and other states are fighting for the limited number of spaces available. After your #1 and #2 teams are placed, there are no guarantees.
Moral of the story, if you think your team is all that make sure you apply to play in the highest league possible. Concorde did and it ended up working in their favor. Ambush did not and it worked against them.

How many of the current players will be on this team in six months? I suspect we will see an amazing turnover...

The decision to take Concorde was made by the Region. Georgia put Ambush up as our 4th pick, but the Region decided to go with Concorde instead based partially on their play in National League. Using that logic, NASA shouldn't have made RPL on the girls side - both SSA and UFA Red have performed better at the larger national/regional tournaments. NASA has played a division below both those teams at CASL and at Disney. Sounds like the DOC at Concorde lobbied hard for his boys team - which - like it or not - is the job of the DOC. If CF doesn't belong in RPL, they won't stay there long. Same with NASA and Ambush on the girls side - UFA Elite and Top Hat will definitely compete - Ambush and NASA will have to step up their game to stay there.
