Potentially 7-8 U.S. Soccer presidential candidates:
Paul Caligiuri Carlos Cordeiro Steve Gans Paul Lapointe Kyle Martino Michael Winograd Eric Wynalda Sunil Gulati ?
Most calling for BIG changes. IMO common topics seem to be, transparency, better decision making, separating business side from technical side, USMNT, promotion/ relegation, overhaul of youth soccer system. I’m not sure if anybody really knows how this will pan out but Interested to hear points-of-view?

I would choose a write-n vote for "footy", "Soccerhouse" "zico" or any number of posters here over the establishment. They can run on the slogan "Make soccer great again".

I said it before but I think Julie Foudy would be an excellent candidate and wish she would run.

I'm also a big fan. Very down to earth, intelligent, articulate, former player and a mom!

Plus Julie has been "down in the trenches" with all the gender equity issues with the WNT

The next US Soccer president should make priority #1 "to support an American soccer revolution".
Outline a plan to include more players who may not have the financial means to "pay to play".
Outline a plan to make soccer a meritocracy, rather than allowing leagues to declare their superiority.

This is well worth a listen. They talk about a wide range of topics and I think Wynalda has a unique background as a player and also parent of kids playing youth soccer.

Agree. Few other thoughts if job is to strengthen the top 0.002% (which is needed for national team success). 1. Make DA free (mandatory). Will naturally funnel top kids to DA which is intent I believe. Now the higher level kids play at, the more expensive it gets. Secretly I was pleased when one of my kids didn’t make DA squad as it would have added thousands to the annual bill. Nuts that parents have the think that way. 2. Take every dollar available and plow it into heavily discounted programs for 6-10 year olds. Take national money and give to local clubs for scholarships. If a kid not playing academy soccer by 10, too late. There aren’t too many exceptional and forgotten 11-14 year olds in rec programs or on the streets contrary to what some may think. They’ve missed years of professional coaching and competitive play. Watching U12 DA kids play just about every day - no chance somebody who hasn’t been coached well for years can compete with most of those kids. But a lot of potential stars never get proper coaching between 6 and 10 due to cost. Once past 10, enter free DA. 3. Encourage all DA clubs not tied to MLS clubs to team up w D2 domestic teams and European clubs. Create a viable and realistic pro pathway outside MLS clubs that doesn’t involve college. Not marketing ties like SSA/Chelsea or Concorde/Roma. But proper ways to get into a pro system at 15-17 for the top kids not picked up by MLS Academy. For most, way too late to turn pro at age 21/22. Julian Gressel and a few others exceptions to rule. Zico, I agree with many of your points here. Especially on the DA side of things. I believe US Soccer should actually reduce the number of DA teams. I understand that one of the unwritten reasons we have so many DA clubs is to reduce travel distance and therefore reduce costs. But if as you suggest, it's funded by MLS/US Soccer, it won't matter. Also, it sets the DA program truly above all other programs. I think this is going to be desperately needed on the GDA side. It's my opinion from what i've seen that some of the GDA programs are more interested in girls/families that can pay for the fees and travel costs, as opposed to only taking the top players. In addition to fees, some of these parents are being asked to pay upwards of $5k additionally for travel costs. Now that's just bananas. The only other item I would add is to adopt the model all other clubs internationally practice. If a player comes from a local club like UFA/CF, etc. No matter how far up the food chain of soccer they go, teams have to pay homage back down the line. So using Neymar as an example, PSG had to pay all the professional and youth clubs that helped to develop him all the way back to his childhood club in Brazil. That also helps to defray the costs and helps to ease the loss of good players to an Atlanta United, etc.

Even DA teams should earn their spot in a pyramid, and prove they belong there.
