Sooooo, I waited to comment till I was able to watch #9 play both CF and AU. Let me start by saying, I've watched enough of the boys in the South Atlantic division and I can say without a doubt he is the best striker in the region. He's quick, big, good enough foot skills, nice pace on the ball, nice foot/shot and most importantly tracks back to assist when needed. twdsoccer was spot on with the analysis of the game yesterday. Today he played AU. For those curious the final score was 3-1. AU struck gold first. The AU coach was smart enough to have two boys play the #6 position against him in the hopes that they contain him. Prior to this game, AU has only had 3 regular season goals scored against them. 2 were penalties and one was a clear mistake by the GK. Today with less than a minute to go in the first half, #9 decided to show you why to date he's scored 40 goals. He took on 4 players and sliced the ball into the upper left for a goal. As twdsoccer said, he took on AU's left side(his right) and found gold. At halftime it was 1-1, in the second half AU kept the same formation 4-(2)(3)-1 but this time ISL tried to move #9 to the AUs right side. The right back and the center right back completely shut him down. Halfway thru the 2nd half he was moved back to AUs left and he was able to penetrate only once. Though he got through the left side of the defense, I believe it was the right back that came and cleared a ball right as he was about to shoot it in. That was his only chance in the 2nd half. All in all a great game and challenge for AU. Too bad they don't get more tough games like this. My take on the games are this:
- I'm surprised AU is so weak at the left back position; - AU needs to work with some of the lesser known strikers to teach them how to finish; - The #9 kid better be on track to be considered for the Nat'l Team - CF showed how good of a team they could be when they play their style of ball and don't succumb to what others are doing
Side Note - AU had their first non-win game yesterday against the NC FC team... 1-1 tie. Also the AU U14s players better be dusting off their resume, the way they played in both games this weekend, leaves a lot to be desired.

Thankfully the games this weekend will be like home games, just don't know which team to root for since we have family at both clubs. Will just have to root for the individual kids to do well. Curious as to where at AU the TC will be held, since we "officially" can't watch. Always good to see good players play against each other and become acquainted. Wish them luck and hope everyone shows well.

U-14s played at same time as U13’s today. How could you provide such detailed notes on the U13 game for AU today, and yet pretend to have seen the U14 game at the same time enough to provide your commentary on how they played? Have you found a rip in the space time continuum? If you have, please tell us all so we came be at 4 games at one time. Otherwise, I’d suggest you find another target other than the 4-1-1 u14 team.
Just saying.

The Shark Lori from the show Shark Tank, has a product called the "simply fit board" that allows you to swivel back and forth. I credit it with giving me the ability to swivel back and forth between games on fields 5 and 6. The fields are also next to each other. When I'm not swiveling back and forth, I sometimes watch them via Stream Sports. They do a great job of uploading the video rather quickly.
You may also have noticed that I didn't give as detailed an account of the U14s since they played very uninspiring football this weekend(2 games). The comment about dusting off their resumes is truly relevant because this week as luck will have it, TA himself is going to be coaching the boys since their regular coach is out for training. Based on the experiences from last year, this is also his way of "evaluating" the boys and this will definitively play into his decision of if they stay or if they are released.
If none of that helps to convince you, know that i'm still trying to get my cut from DOC and Marty McFly as the silent 3rd partner in the creation of the Space Time Continuum.

Never in a million years did I think I would be reading about Swivel boards and Back to the Future puns on a soccer blog. Thank you for giving this spring forward, half asleep, truly tired soccer mom a good laugh to wake me up this morning.

I had to read it a few times actually, I thought it was some super dope tech, that allowed you to watch and stream u13 DA games from the comfort of your own couch.......

I have heard some of the same stories. Some thinking their spots were secure and at the last moment, someone better snatching it away. Of course now the kid is suffereing from the soccer version of PTSD and now has to try and fight for a spot on a team he knows no-one on. Honestly, unless you are in the Nat'l Team Pool, I would be putting out feelers to your old clubs or a new club you may be interested in going to. I will say as the spring season of the past has shown, the boys whom the club deems "less than" are played less & less and supposedly don't travel. Those boys sadly get very little playing time as in 10-15 minutes or less and in some cases no playing time at all. They do everything other than tell you you are not returning. Of course I would prefer they call the parents/players in and have a heart to heart. I also wish parents will quit sucking up to the coaching staff in the hopes that this will reverse the fact that sometimes a good natured kid, just isn't a good enough player at this level. One thing many parents/players seem to forget is the goal and mandate of clubs like AU - discover, develop, train and eventually sign/sell first team players. Sometimes it's local talent, other times it's a player moving back to the states from Germany.

Bump
This weekend the schedule says the AU boys face #9 again. This time however, it will be in his house in Charlotte. Curious as to how the AU boys will fare playing on the road against a good ISL team with the phenomenal Striker #9. They limited him to one goal in the last game. I wonder what the game plan will be for him. Hopefully the game is recorded.

ISL is the old Queen City Mutiny right? The old queen city I thought was a fully funded program, might be wrong, is ISL?

I believe they were the Mutiny, who were privately funded. However, if my memory serves me right they lost many of their hispanic players to a newly formed local club similar to Alianza that drew all their good hispanic boys. As far as I know ISL FC is like any other DA Club, funded by fees.
Update: For the game between AU & ISL, this weekend, the U13s tied with ISL and the U14s won 5 zip. Finally, I hear the parents of the U13s for ISL came to do battle. The started things off by making sure they setup tents and chairs on both sides of the field to ensure they were imbedded with the AU parents who made the trip. I hear there were at least 2 scuffles that occurred where parents had to be separated. There was talk about some of the big ISL boys being told by their parents to hurt the AU players on challenges. I hear one of the AU strikers may have a busted ankle. Should lead to some interesting games the next couple of seasons as the stakes get higher.
