Just a thought that occurred to me and wondering if anyone else had the same:
**This is with the boys side in mind. Don't know anything on the girls side.
Rumor 1: Top 5-6 clubs will break from GA Soccer to US Club to form their own Champions league.
Rumor 2: UFA applying for ECNL.
It makes me wonder if the two aren't really the same rumor. The top 5-6 clubs all gain ECNL and form an Atlanta ECNL league with the two additional teams from Alabama and Tennessee. It would eliminate some of the ECNL related travel.
Top 6 with ECNL: GSA, AFU and Concorde.
Top 6 without ECNL: UFA, SSA and NASA
Am I onto something or just crazy and need to get back focussed on work?

Rumor 1 -- its partly true -- 5 clubs (no AFU) 2nd or 3rd team depending on club will be playing in Champions League instead of RPL. They have not broken away from GA Soccer, the other teams will still play select under GA Soccer Rumor 2 -- UFA Norcross applied for ECNL but hasn't been accepted as of yet Regardless whether Norcross gets approved or not the other league is happening...

No, not a new rumor. Rather a mashup of existing rumors.

I like it - a rumor based upon a mashup of existing rumors, that is also based upon research and what is the best known information at the current time.

Interesting play by ECNL, a bit of slap in the face though. It really is a battle between leagues.

Did ECNL truly think a club with DA would forgo it for ECNL? That would be like offering one of the Premier League teams an opportunity to leave the Premier League and instead join the 2nd division Championship League. Yes UFA as a whole has applied for ECNL almost every year and were blocked by their local rivals. That was before they received DA. However, in anticipation and because of changing demographics, the Norcross location has been bleeding girls as of late. This particular application is specific to Norcross and was to serve a particular purpose. To keep the interest and numbers of girls trending upward at Norcross and to make sure the bleed of girls to UFA-Fowler, AFU, CF, TH slowed to a trickle. Plus, it meets the mandate of ECNL and DA being at separate locations. Boys DA is run out of Norcross, so no issues there, but this move towards an ECNL goal is a small cog in the long term strategic goal UFA is currently undertaking across its multiple locations.

NASA already has ECNL on the boys side. Doubt SSA will be able to obtain ECNL. They don't have enough coaches with A coaching licenses.

Sorry to bring this forum back, but my family has been stuck in a dilemma. My son, a rising junior, aspires to play college soccer, but the team he is stuck doing poorly in RPL. The whole situation is a mess. We have a received an offer to play at the Classic 1 level, but he is afraid that the exposure from college coaches will decrease, and he won't get seen by colleges. Should we stay at the RPL level where the team is awful and so is the coach, try and tryout at an ECNL risking it all, or stay safe and play at a Classic 1 level with a familiar coach and a much more competitive team?
Thanks for any feedback, Bill

Thanks for any feedback, Bill I would say to go where the exposure is the highest, which I presume would be ECNL. Would the Classic 1 team keep him if he doesn't make ECNL? Does the Classic 1 team go to any tournaments where college coaches watch? Is your kid doing any college ID camps this summer?

The Classic 1 team needs a decide ASAP, while the ECNL is only looking for another few people, as their starting lineup is relatively set, unless some of the players leave to play DA, which is always a possibility. I'm sure the Classic 1 team will end up going to either Disney or CASL. Also, my son is set on going on a 2-3 college ID camps this summer.

Sounds like you have good options either way. I don't envy you/your kid having to decide what to do. Having been to showcases like Disney, my sense is that there are fewer coaches in attendance the lower you go down the totem pole, on the order of 50-75 coaches watching the top bracket to single digits in lower ones. Choose the college ID camps wisely and have your kid keep in touch with some of those coaches throughout the year to let them know how things are going. Everybody's experience is different, but my kid got more interest from college coaches at the showcases than from big camps. Going to a camp once the kid is already on the coach's radar though can be useful to solidify interest. Some players I know went to their college's camp multiple times leading up to recruitment so this summer is definitely very important for your son. Best of luck!
