Looks like NASA Elite should pick up two wins if they can convert chances and score some goals. Game of the weekend is definitely TH v. UFA. The bottom half of the table teams like CF Black, NASA premiere and Norcross need to find some points this weekend. Is AFU ever going to play a match?

Looks like great weather for this weekend! It's a pretty light schedule for Athena. Lots of top teams are heading to the Vulcan Cup - six divisions for U13 girls. There ought to be some great games there. Even AFU will get some games in . AFU's U14 ECNL seems to rely on several of the U13's so I'm guessing that's where some of their team played on Sat. A:SaturdayTH 1 - UFA 0 - I though UFA would put up a bigger score against GSA Red last weekend. TH is always tough to beat. Definitely the game of the weekend! Norcross 2 - CF Black 1 - Good thing CF Black managed a couple points against AFC last weekend. I think they'll have a lot of close games this season but it will be a struggle for them to manage a finish in the middle of A. NASA Elite 3 - AFC 0 - I think AFC could pull off a couple wins this season but probably not against NASA Elite. SundayCF Black 1 - NASA Premier 1 - Tough call on this one. Both of these teams will have few chances to pick up points so a win here would be big. Norcross 0 - NASA Elite 1 - Norcross has kept their games really close but NASA Elite is tough to beat. B:SaturdayAmbush 2 - CGSA 0 - CGSA kept the score relatively close against Macon but couldn't win against another team that came up from C. Should be 5 points for Ambush. SSA 0 - RYSA 0 - RYSA's gotten off to a poor start. Hopefully they can turn things around this weekend. DSC 3 - Rush 1 - I don't expect DSC to have much trouble winning this one. SundayInter 2 - RYSA 0 - Inter's 2-1 loss to Roswell last week was a little closer than I though it would be. They must have played well. NASA 0 - DSC 2 - DSC's 4-0 win over Chiefs was a great start to their season. UFA 1 - Ambush 2 Vulcan CupAFU 0 - CF Elite 1 - Should be an exciting game. What's AFU been up to lately? No scores in SIC for a while. I don't think either will beat the RAD team that's in their group. GSA is on the other side of this bracket but they have a tough group too. Chiefs 1 - GSA Red 2 - Red is a much better matchup for Chiefs than the top GSA team they had to play last season. I don't think these two teams have played before but I'll give the slight edge to GSA. Roswell was placed in the 4th division - interesting placement. I'm not familiar with the out of state teams they'll play but suspect they'll do well.

My guesses for C last weekend were not so good. Here's an attempt for this weekend. TSC will be tough to beat in this group. They've already beaten two of the teams that were moved down from B (CF North and Norcross). Norcross lost to GSA too. We'll see if the third team that was moved down (CF South) fares better when they finally play a game next week.
Saturday TSC 3 - NW YMCA 1
DSC 1 - Rome Arsenal 0
Sunday TSC 2 - NASA 0
South GA 1 - UFA Black 1

That's a good field for Vulcan Cup. Interested to see how those games play out in the top bracket.

My oldest daughter's u13 Athena D game at BSC in Peachtree City has been cancelled due to the fields remaining closed. AFC has all their fields closed for Saturday. I think it's a bit ridiculous since the rain stopped this morning and the forecast for Saturday is near 70 degrees and sun. If they choose to keep their fields closed because it rained more than a day before then I'd say their fields will be closed all season since it seems to rain every two to three days in Atlanta the past year or so.

And now I eat crow...NSA fields are also closed for Saturday's games. Ugh. This is going to be a rough spring season. Rescheduled practices, rescheduled games galore! Throw spring break in and Easter weekend and let the insanity begin! LOL

Wow RYSA U13 girls have 2 red cards in 4 games. It seems unusual for girls teams to have any. They'd better clean up their play or they'll be the first to lose some points in the standings.

well another tough weekend for some u13A teams. its a competitive group for sure. norcross just can't find the net, lost again 1-0. 3 consecutive 1-0 games is tough. shows ya, those games can go either way.
how does the current 13s compare to other years past? stronger? more depth in the agegroup?

Well done fan, you nailed both NASA Elite scores perfectly. Not sure how the rest of your predictions panned out but saw those two finals.
To give my two cents on the last post, I would say this is a very deep and talented age group. Just look at how often the top teams play tight matches and beat each other up. I don't think anyone runs through this age group without a few draws and losses on their record. And I also think any one of 5 teams could win A this spring - NASA Elite, CF Elite, GSA, UFA and even TH could still win it but TH now needs to just about run the table and get some help. Normally that seems to be a 2 or 3 horse race in Athena A at U13 when everyone is still playing USYS.

Vulcan is a very competitive tournament and the tournament will work to keep teams from the same state out of the same bracket. There's some pretty obvious trophy shopping from some out of state clubs when they request lower brackets, but overall, it's very fair and well run. Nice to play clubs from other states instead of the same old same old.
