OK, my opinion is that Concorde Fire would like to keep DA for Boys and ECNL for Girls. Why can't they have both? Also, if they drop DA then which club is in to pick it up for DA and if they drop ECNL which club is in for ECNL? This is crazy! I think that SSA could gain a lot out of this decision as we have been talking about them with SCCL as the ones not to gain. Anyone heard the decision for Concorde yet?

Wow, I just don't see them dropping either. But, that would be fair to the other clubs. And just to reiterate, SSA has NPL.

Why would anyone else get the ECNL spot. As it stands there is an odd number in the SE conference. They need Concorde to drop to get back to even numbers.

ECNL is more profitable for Concorde or any other club. There are less requirements, fewer training sessions, and more players because they involve every age group. If anything is dropped it would be DA. With that said, would Concorde get two ECNL slots like some of the other big clubs that dropped DA?

If I were GB & Co. I would keep DA on the boys side and keep ECNL on the girls side. Right now DA has a higher profile on the boys side and there is a pathway to the Pros, College and the National Team. On the girls side ECNL has the infrastructure and prestige for a pathway to College and the National Team which provides a pathway to the NWSL. This also helps with keeping their relationship with both the USSF and ECNL. Down the line when things are ironed out and there is a true shift they'll already have a relationship in place to easily come back into ECNL on the boys side or GDA.

I agree 100% can’t see CF picking the opposite. Still not sure who is mandating the change? USSF or US Club Soccer?

Why do they have to choose? Granted I am not "in the know" but the Concorde Tryout Pages are updated and state: When registering for DA, select Central as your tryout location When registering for ECNL, select Central as your tryout location www.concordefire.com/tryoutsGM

At least that was the general consensus was here.

So with 3 weeks before camps no one seriously has a clue if TopHat and Concorde are keeping DA AND ECNL?
It is hard enough with the fact that the Girls DA is not single age groups.
So is 1/2 the DA team playing ECNL every other year or playing SCCL the non DA year?
So if you are an ENCL player at TH or CF then every other year when the DA girls get pushed down to ECNL now the lower half of the ECNL team moves down to SCCL? Then the lower half of the players on THAT team get pushed down to Athena?
So if you are at UFA and there in no ECNL then you play every other year at DA and then move to Norcross the next year for SCCL and then back to UFA for DA the following year?
At least at GSA or AFU if a girl is ECNL then they know they what level they are playing at and with who (as far as teammates for the next few years).
If there is no TEAM development then why play as a team ... Maybe they should just run Skills Camps and Clinics and Player Development Training all year long and forego TEAM play. (okay that last one was just ranting but I am curious if everyone says its about player development and the quality of your coach how do any of these split age groups in DA help anyone on the bubble and the second teams?)

greenmonkey for the first two years GDA is a single year(14, 15), it's the U17s and U19s that are double years. The questions you ask are apropos and glaring in shining a light on some of the issues and nuances that this thing we call youth soccer has. In previous years I had always thought if you're good enough to play DA then do so, in the years when you're the younger age year and can't make the combined team you move on to an ECNL team to keep your skills and play at a decently high level. It also gives you the opportunity to play with friends in HS, maybe even partake in ODP, visit some colleges in the spring without the constraints that DA puts on you. To some extent, that could now change.

The AFU and GSA websites list ECNL as starting at U14. I don't think they have a webmaster who makes sure the information is up to date...

So with 3 weeks before camps no one seriously has a clue if TopHat and Concorde are keeping DA AND ECNL? ECNL is bleeding out its information related to who is "All-In". The last two announcements have both featured three clubs. Both announcements were made on a Thursday, a good day to communicate news so it doesn't get missed and is still top of mind on the sidelines at that weekend's matches. If Concord and/or TH flip off GDA and go "All-In" I'm guessing you won't hear about it until Thursday morning. If you like GDA at these clubs you are hoping for an earlier announcement. Several big clubs in other areas still expected to announce, but who knows, maybe they're done, just seems unlikely. The whole "All-In" campaign seems extremely well coordinated so I think some thought is going into the timing of these announcements. drip, drip, drip. Michigan Hawks announced they will field two ECNL teams per age group, one will be a six-month commitment, the other will be a ten-month commitment. Get to keep the whole player pool that is currently split between GDA and ECNL, move all the travel receipts to an agent of your choice, and you can take back control of your schedule. Pretty sure the USSFDA doesn't have a patent on analyzing video or using gps, and they will never dare use the nuclear option of only selecting GDA players for GNT. ECNL appears to be holding most of the cards right now. Good luck to all... watching from far away.

Really? If TH and CF choose girls ECNL over GDA that makes UFA the only GDA in town?! Imagine the FOMO 400 North Commute LOL okay but seriously Why would ECNL want two TH teams and two CF teams (like the Michigan Hawks) per age group and then AFU and GSA now that makes 6 ECNL teams in metro atlanta?! Does ECNL girls have two divisions an upper and a lower? Plus a few mergers and aquisitions (nasa/th/lsa) and (gsa/davula) plus alternate locations (concorde central/north/south/west/ais and UFA forsyth/nprcross/milton/lawrencville/) oh and of course the age mandate ... and I forgot the move for 06s now from Academy to whatever alphabet soup and I think somewhere along the line they are moving to 11v11 this year too. Seriously lets just take all the girls to mercedes benz and do a u13 and up soccer combine and draft. LOL

In fairness, one big club, Dallas Texans, just announced they are dropping ECNL and doing GDA along with some new Texas development league that they hope will allow them to shelter players who don’t make or don’t want to play on a GDA team. That is a key for them. Having a reasonable alternative that parents and players still think counts as “elite”.

GDA website and the current year was 14,15 single year But Concorde is posting www.concordefire.com/tryouts Girls 2005/2006 Central location USSDA and NTH Top is posting pricing for GDA as U13/14 GDA versus the U13 ECNL pricing

Within 2 years ECNL clubs will have "two teams" per age group like Michigan Hawks. The main team and a composite team. It keeps the pool of players from leaving and giving them a bone. Think of it as one pool of players, both teams playing the same schedule to help travel.
It's coming.

I still don't see any consistency as to why Concorde has to choose GDA or ECNL.... Following the idea that ECNL has mandated that clubs with both have to maintain a certain level of performance, then how come FC Dallas still have both? They performed pretty poorly in ECNL, worse than Dallas Texans, but looks like the Texans had to choose and chose GDA.
FC Dallas have performed worse in relation to Concorde in their Conference.
I'm sure it's all politics to some extent, but you can lose credibility when there is no consistency.

I think ECNL is already more credible than the former SRPL given the slots that clubs were allowed to keep when their top teams moved leagues (vs Player continuity).

Reading the tea leaves, my prediction is CF announces very (very) soon that it is done with girls DA and will be all in with ECNL.

Seems like this chapter of ECNL v. GDA may play out differently in different regions. If GDA really wants to stay in the business of running a high level league, they may be wise to retreat and shore up Southern Cal and Texas. They seem solid there, even though I think one or two SoCal teams are moving to ECNL. NorCal and the NW, Midwest, and NorthEast are clearly trending in ECNL's favor. The SE is still kind of up for grabs, and that's why CF and NTH's decisions are of a lot of interest. In terms of clubs currently participating in GDA in the SE that can dictate their own paths it's pretty much CF and NTH, right? I can report that up north Eclipse is holding what they call "an urgent meeting" tomorrow night to discuss the path the club will take going forward.

I think you are very (very) correct in your assumption that CF announcement is coming soon. You have some strong tea leaves...LOL The question is....Will CF be able to hold onto the girls that think DA is the end all to be all?

Still no solid info as to the 'why' CF needs to choose one? Seems like both are going ok, why not let it breathe for a couple of seasons?
