To oraclesfriend and Slickdaddy... so you "heard" that there was a spring season for those 8th graders for Aug.-Dec. birthdays. Well, my kid got caught in that with the very first year of the age mandate, and let me tell you, there was NO season. So to me it sounds like you haven't experienced it and you're regurgitating what the clubs "sad" would happen. In reality it did not happen. And this will happen again when she is in 12th grade. It's hard to have to tell your kid, who just loves playing, that she will have to miss 2 full seasons because someone made a stupid decision that effects less than 1% of all kids playing soccer. As for playing in the same grades, IMHO it does make a difference whether you are at the same school/class or not. The players have share the same experiences and tend to "click" with their own grade level. Just my observations... If you look at the Georgia Soccer website where they list the team schedules there are 5 or 6 divisions of girls U15 teams that are playing this spring. This happened last spring too. I have several U15 8th grader girls that I know through friends and siblings of my older daughter and girls on her middle school soccer team. They are all playing in the spring league this season. All of those girls also happen to be at a small club. Sorry if your club did not do it last year. That is a shame. Maybe they didn't have enough kids??? I dont know. And no I personally have not experienced it and will not because my older child is an August birthday so was one of those kids playing with most of the kids one grade below her though she had a couple who were also August on her team. It is sad for your daughter to be in that situation, but to hold on to bitterness about it two years later is not good for you or her. Someone (I believe it was you) pooh poohed my comment about hurting my child because she went from oldest to on the younger end. It did hurt her. She dropped down to a lower team and now her teammates are of lower quality and skills than her previous ones were. However, I am not angry about it anymore. I let that go about 2 weeks after tryouts 2 years ago. It is what it is and regardless of whether it worked out for some people and hurt others to change it back again would do the same thing. So there is no point. Unless you live really far away from the metro area there is a club you could find who is doing spring for U15. There will also be a club who will field a team or multiple teams for those kids who are still in high school at U19. I doubt they will change it back. The federation is not exactly quick to change things because of member clubs' and players' desires. Which ever way they set the cutoff is arbitrary. BTW it is not the only sport to go by birth year. When I tried to register by kid for softball years ago it was birth year also. So she couldn't play yet as she was too young at the time.

There might be 5 divisions offering spring friendlies but the spring season is a joke. We had a total of 2 practices until this past week. Of the 8 games that were scheduled, we played 5. The other 3 were cancelled for any number of reasons with no rescheduling date. Some 8th graders aren’t allowed to play high school sports with their freshmen counted parts. Last years spring friendlies were a mashup of not enough players showing up to play, and games cancelled last minute. Add to that the cost is exactly the same as if you played both seasons on a top team with minimum of 3 practices a week...

The cost issue is terrible. They should charge 1/3 of the usual fall season. I know it is not as serious and things get canceled. I know it isn't ideal. I just think it is a waste of time to try to get the federation to change it. You would have better luck trying to get the school district to offer middle school soccer. Several counties have it around the area and nearly all of the private schools. Or organize pick up games with the teammates in the same situations. There are tons of articles and opinions from soccer experts that playing without a coach telling them what to do is great for their game.

My kid played in the u15 spring friendlies along with HS. They had a bunch of games and it was a 1/4 of the cost. The team trained 3x a week, the girls that did HS trained 2x. Not every club offered it, and some girls from other clubs joined our team with permission from their clubs

I too had a good experience with the U15 spring season. Well run. Better than the Fall R3PL season.
That collaboration between the Atlanta clubs to set up spring games was probably one of the things that 'greased the skids' for SCCL.
