I have a rising U14 player-when are we allowed to start contacting new clubs to get information for tryouts, club philosophy, coaching assignments, etc....?
Also, aside from the details listed above, and obvious basics (practice times/locations, how many/what level teams), what questions should we be asking?
Thanks for the advice?

Okay, so I thought there was some rule about contacting clubs if your player was already committed to another team. Is this incorrect?

Coaches from other clubs have a restriction on when they can actively recruit players. But you can talk with them

330.2 No registered player may directly or indirectly contact any other team during the current seasonal year, until the Tuesday following Memorial Day or fourteen days prior to the allowed start of tryouts for that age group, without fourteen days’ written notice to his/her present coach, or without an approved release on file in the electronic registration system. For Academy players in the 09U through 12U age groups, no registered player may directly or indirectly contact any other team until fourteen days before the Tuesday following Memorial Day. 330.2a If a member ascertains that another member of the association has violated the recruiting rules, that member is entitled to seek redress by filing a grievance with the Georgia Soccer Ethics and Grievance Committee - Youth.
What is this rule regarding? Is it only for younger players, or am I misunderstanding what it means? Just want to make sure my player doesn't get in trouble!

Now I am confused as well. We never contacted any coaches, just stayed with our club and moved up the ranks.

A parent can call a club at any time during the year to ask questions.

A parent can call a club at any time during the year to ask questions. Whether that club will be forthcoming with information is another story!

At it's core, you're the customer. You can always call a club and ask questions about the club in more general terms. You can't seek out a specific coach/team. As an example, think of your kid wanting to go to particular college, he/she can go through admissions, participate in summer camps, find out about the programs etc. You cannot reach out directly to the Head Coach.
Honestly, in the spring season, you should go visit the club. Check out practices, if possible, chat with parents and get a feel for the club. First impressions and gut feelings usually will tell you if you should move on or look further into the club.

On a similar yet different question... When can you guest play for another club? Anytime your current club allows you too. Your home club just has to okay it and give the guest playing team your player pass.

At the end of the season the big issue is always going to be did you pay all of your soccer fees. Common occurrence player A’s team not going to State Cup but he wants to go to State Cup. His buddies from another Club informally invite him to join their team that’s going to State Cup. Player A calls his current coach. His current coach says sure after you pay your outstanding fees.

In general, don’t worry about wat you’re doing on your kid’s behalf until someone with authority tells you to stop - the clubs sure don’t follow all the rules...
