I am going to flip the script a bit and create a post about a positive tryout experience we had last night. As numerous threads will attest, tryouts can be very stressful for the kids and the parents and even downright maddening given the stories of the 06G tryouts last week. Even more so when you are changing clubs. That's the situation we find ourselves in this year. We went to Ambush tryouts last night and had a good experience with the 05G.
There should be some good news and or good stories this time of year right?

Glad to hear you had a positive experience!
Were you a returning player or were you trying out a new club? Is your player considered "above average"?
Just curious... as it could make a difference in how the night went.

That's our team too! Ambush is a great club, we are very happy there. Welcome and we can't wait to play with your daughter! See you tonight!

We had a very positive 1st night of tryouts. The kids are old enough to drive themselves and they knew where they stood before tryouts. Tryouts are much more enjoyable sitting on the deck at home with a margarita 😄. Good luck on night 2!

We had a stressful hour or 2, but overall, I had my kids communicate with the coach before and after the first night.

David Eristavi is a wonderful and happy guy. Doug Yearwood is an outstanding coach and all around good guy.

I mentioned this in another thread where some people were bashing Concorde tryouts, but we had a positive experience at both Concorde and Tophat. Tryout setup was almost identical and coaches at both places were actively interacting with players.

Had a great time at Chiefs Fc tonight. Quality coaches walking around actually coaching during small sided and full size scrimmaging. Kiddo actually expressed how nice it was to go play and make dives on grass compared to the dirt fields around.

My daughter went to 3 different tryouts and had nothing but great things to say about all the teams she tryouted for. Sad to say I think I stressed out more then her because all the coaches made it easy for her to enjoy the game instead of stressing about what team she will make

My son was at the CF 01 ECNL/DA tryout all 3 days. He had a great time with lots of interaction with the coaches. For those dissenters out there, he is not a star player just loves to be playing. Obviously any club your child attends is going to have core players they know. It would be great if wvery player could be truly evaluated but there just is not enough time for the coaches to realistically see every player. If your player wants to be on a certain team or level, my advice is to think ahead to where that will be next year, play at that club this year and become known. Next year your player will have a much better chance of being watched,or placed in a higher group for consideration. Trying to get recognized in a 2-3 day window is just not realistic. No matter how hard they try, coaches are not all-seeing.

I don’t know if it’s the weather or the age group but everyone seems happier at 05 than 06. LOL

We went to Rush and also had a very positive experience. sounds like Rush doesn't have enough 04G to form a team. Is this true?

I hope they didn't hose your kid and put him on a classic 3 team!
And for the 03 and older ages, the coaches already know the top players in the state. They have usually coached them or against them for years.

In response to the poster who said coaches know top 03 and older, you are exactly right!

We had a great tryout experience this year. There were new coaches to all teams in the age group and the coaches looked at the kids thoroughly. They moved kids up and down, sat down some kids they had made decisions on so they could look at others, made notes of clipboards, AND took the input of last year's coaching staff. I would say that about 40 kids got a look for the top two teams and even the ones who were never moved to that field still had the coach look at them as that coach watched both fields.

ah the clipboard, too bad most decisions made well ahead of the evaluation period

ah the clipboard, too bad most decisions made well ahead of the evaluation period Not this year. The team she is on has 4 kids from other clubs, 7 from my daughter's team last year and 6 kids from other teams at the same club. The team below her is about the same mix...some from her team, some from other teams (above and below) and some from other clubs. The team below that has 2 from her prior team and a bunch of kids I don't know...some from our club and some from other clubs. So in summary prior year's team is mixed up now on three different teams. Other teams are mixed as well.
