Would be curious to hear whether and at what age kids have started participating in soccer specific work in these areas. There could be multiple benefits I know, not the least of which could be injury prevention. There are really five parts to the query. First, does your kid do it? Second, if they do such supplemental work, is this just in the context of speed and agility training often offered by clubs? Third, do any kids participate in individual speed and strength training at any number of sports performance centers in the metro Atlanta area? Fourth, do the kids like it? Fifth, does anyone notice an improvement in performance as a result of participation in such programs? Feel free to provide feedback on as few or as many parts of the query as you wish.

1. does your kid do it? Absolutely. Both my boy and girl do it. IMO- Well worth the investment.
2. is this just in the context of speed and agility training often offered by clubs? We do outside the club.
3. do any kids participate in individual speed and strength training at any number of sports performance centers in the metro Atlanta area? Yes.
4. do the kids like it? Not sure anyone really "likes" it, but both my kids see the benefit. I never have to "make" them go to S&A training.
5. does anyone notice an improvement in performance as a result of participation in such programs? Absolutely. It has especially helped my girl. In addition, the place we go to does a nice job in terms of technique and and it really helps with overall conditioning. Amazing how many kids don't run as "efficiently" as they could/should. I will never forget the trainer telling me that my daughter has excellent strength and good speed, but she was not "putting the two together" when she ran. They worked on her technique and it has really help in term of her speed and quickness.

First, does your kid do it? yes - she loves it
Second, if they do such supplemental work, is this just in the context of speed and agility training often offered by clubs? We go outside the club and work with a track coach. Improving running form is key to speed and agility.
Third, do any kids participate in individual speed and strength training at any number of sports performance centers in the metro Atlanta area? Yes - we've gone to two facilities and done some one on one with an old coach
Fourth, do the kids like it? YES - she really likes the fitness part. I think she'd continue to do that even if she didn't play soccer
Fifth, does anyone notice an improvement in performance as a result of participation in such programs? Yes - her form and confidence has improved

Daughter is a senior GK . . .
1. does your kid do it? Yes
2. is this just in the context of speed and agility training often offered by clubs? No . . . extra at $30 per hourly session.
3. do any kids participate in individual speed and strength training at any number of sports performance centers in the metro Atlanta area? In Chattanooga at D1 sports with a GK coach/trainer
4. do the kids like it? Daughter LOVEST it - probably because of the coach and what he teaches.
5. does anyone notice an improvement in performance as a result of participation in such programs? Without a doubt - specifically in quickness within proper technique.

Both of my kids (girls 7 and 12 at the time) did speed and agility training at Norcross Sports Training Academy (nsta.org) with Corey Bridges during the summer offseason in 2013 after swimming and before the Fall season started. He used to do NSA's Speed and Agility clinics but has since moved out on his own. He has some impressive credentials Both girls loved it (especially my youngest) and I can't even begin to say how much it improved their speed just by correcting their running form. I even picked up a few things on technique myself. They would probably benefit from starting it up again but I think they train enough during the season as it is.

My sons team has been doing an hour per week with Corey also. It's really good stuff. Ironically, we used the Norcross tournament refund money to fund these sessions...

Yes, my son worked with a speed and strength trainer for about four months; started right after a disappointing club season. He got his mojo back, got his head back in the game. He did not continue when high school soccer season started. Recently though he requested another few sessions with the trainer as he says he has 'ambitions' to improve even more. 2. The trainer is top notch and offered skill training in addition to strength and agility. 4. Yes, he has himself seen the value and he appreciates the opportunity. 5. Yes, the improvement was noticeable within two weeks of attendance.

i'm a big fan. my kids have alot done it - privately and with a team. i've think its helped. alot with the mental aspect, makes them show themselves that they are committed to getting better. jump rope is a great tool. keep the kids on the toes, and quick on their feet.
