This team was so confusing this year: they finished 4th in Athena A, then 8th in spring RPL where the barely scored a goal. At state cup, all of a sudden had 20 girls on the roster and score more in that weekend then they did in all of RPL, finishing 2nd place.
I guess the girls added for state cup couldn't make the trip to the southern regional and they went back to being the bad RPL team they were before?

I don't know if 2 losses and one draw with a goal differential of -5 over 3 games qualifies as being "smashed." Take a look at the goal differential of some other teams. Homewood Alabama and Sporting Arkansas were -15 and -9 respectively and a very strong USA Mount Pleasant team was -9 also. Tophat Gold 05 is like a lot of teams at that age...inconsistent. They beat your LSA team in the fall, lost to you in the Spring and managed to go to the finals in State Cup. As for the "extra" kids on the roster for State Cup I know that some of those kids were the same ones on the team in the fall that had been moved up a level in the spring including their leading scorer in the fall. I understand the frustration of people that see other clubs bringing in other kids for State Cup and I can absolutely see their point. I guess State Cup uses the same rules as other tournaments...they allow guest players. Whether that SHOULD be allowed is another story.

I saw that TH team play both AFU (2 times) and LSA (state cup). It did seem that they had better players at state cup than during the Athena A portion of the year, but my memory is bad;)

If anybody would like facts versus conjecture, maybe you will allow me to set the record straight. In the spring, the gold team lost their leading scorer, as noted earlier, due to promotion to the ECNL team. Also in the spring, one navy player was promoted to the gold team as a center back. The same player that was promoted to ECNL was brought back for state cup. She was the ONLY player added to the roster for state cup.
As for regionals, our starting center forward was out of the country and was replaced by u-12 player. Our keeper was not able to make it and had to be replaced at the last minute. One of our holding mids had a broken arm and couldn't play. So yes, we had two guest players. The one forward who had been promoted to ECNL and a u-12 player.
Sorry, but Top Hat did not stack the deck at a state Cup.
I'm sure it doesn't make you feel any better to realize that you got beat by the same group of girls that you played since the fall season, but before you demean the accomplishments of someone's children, maybe you should get the facts.

Salty, but thanks for delivering data.

Your assumption of stacking the team is obviously wrong. The team and coach worked hard and progressed, which teams are supposed to do. Stop being so negative, there are teams with actual integrity still around.
