Read a similar article a few days ago where they referenced the MLSPU and a document stating that payments to youth clubs would "restrict" players from getting signed and moving around to other clubs and limit their opportunities. I thought that was BS

So if I understand here, the deal is that most foreign pro clubs pay the players on their Academy teams and the US/MLS does not. The foreign club just wanted to make sure there were no fees owed for transfer or past training compensation/salary? Is that about it?
Sounds like USSF/MLS is trying to stay as cheap as possible, which makes it easier for foreign clubs to poach their players (its only a 1-year contract after all). At least with the MLS clubs/DA the club foots the bill. The rest of us in the amateur world are paying a couple grand a year. I'm imagining we have a lot more youth soccer clubs than they do elsewhere in the world. And we parents are shelling out more to keep the system going...

yea, there has been arguments as to why should the youth club get the money if the parent has been footing the bill etc... The other is something I'm fairly certain Sunil Gulati brought up at the last election that paying youth clubs would some how violate federal law and compensation for minors. Something like that. I apologize for not remembering the exact wording. here is the Ronaldo example: www.timesnownews.com/sports/football/article/cristiano-ronaldo-to-juventus-how-manchester-united-will-benefit-from-their-former-players-transfer/252683As per reports in Portuguese media, here's how much the three clubs will be earning respectively: Manchester United: 2.5 million Euros Sporting Lisbon: 2.2 million Euros Nacional: 248,000 Euros you could easily develop a system where parents are reimbursed for some of their expenses over the years, and then the club gets $ to help support and produce future players. Right now their is no incentive

I thought that was BS MLSPU lawyer contends... If another club wants to acquire a MLS player and there is ANY "extra" fee (training compensation or solidarity payment).. then it takes money from the player. I'm not an MLS player (surprise) but it seems extraordinarily dumb.
