I wasn’t aware that there WAS such a thing as Men’s college soccer???
This is a particular hobby horse for me. In 1970, men outnumbered women on college campuses 58-42. This was deemed such a social injustice and national crisis that it warranted a legislative solution such as Title IX. Today that ratio is reversed. I wonder if we need a Title IX for men to correct this new modern day national crisis.
I won’t hold my breath.

The title IX changes went further in the early 90's. They added more women's sports programs in the mid 90's to make up for it. But if the "blame" for men's soccer on the chopping block belongs anywhere it isn't on women's sports or the number of women attending college. The blame rests with society's lack of interest in soccer in the US. Football, basketball and sometimes baseball are revenue producing sports and soccer is not. Even at a powerhouse program like New Mexico they are cutting the program because it is losing money. I did find the title nine comment in the article to be a little confusing because they also cut a women's program when they cut men's soccer and there was no mention of whether beach volleyball was men's or women's or both. But they did cut women's skiing so the title nine doesn't wash with that.

Btw the beach volleyball was also women's. I checked their website. So they cut two men's and two women's sports. Title IX is just an excuse then.

That's why things like men's soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, etc got whacked.. it's about equal scholarship opportunities. As long as football is around, they need 6-7 more soccer-sized sports for women just to catch up.
