From espn
Apr 6, 2014 ESPN.com news services U.S. women's national team head coach Tom Sermanni on Sunday was relieved of his duties, effective immediately, just over a year away from the 2015 Women's World Cup.
Jilll Ellis, U.S. Soccer's director of development, will serve as interim coach and take over the post on April 10, when the U.S. faces China in San Diego.
"We want to thank Tom for his service over the past year and half, but we felt that we needed to go in a different direction at this time," U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said via press release. "We will begin looking for a new coach immediately to guide our Women's National Team toward qualifying for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup."
Said Sermanni: "I'm disappointed that things didn't work out, but I'd like to thank U.S. Soccer for the opportunity to have coached this team and also the staff and players for all their hard work."
Sermanni took over the USWNT coaching reins in October 2012 after Pia Sundhage left the program to coach the national team in her native Sweden.

I know they bombed at the Algarve Cup, but I really didn't see that one coming!

Wow - shocking, you have to wonder what was going on behind the scenes and in the locker room. he's been giving many young players chances, might have rubbed some of the older players the wrong way. either way, the defense has not been playing well as a unit, and they should be possessing the ball much more. but the algarve cup might have scared us soccer leadership, what if we lay an egg like that in a real tourney like next years world cup.

very surprising, but the results from last tourney were disgusting. i read somewhere that he only made $200,000. might be more stunning!
to me his roster fooling around was getting silly. also US soccer did a disservice with the post olympic tour, thats when they should have been experimenting more (even if he wasn't the coach,)
