personally i wasn't very impressed with the US women vs china last night even though it was 3-0.
a few comments:
• as discussed before the home kit is terrible.
• I’ve seen u13/u14 girls team in Georgia play better soccer. Not every team has to play the Barcelona way, but that china side is weak, they should have never even touched the ball.
• at the start they said they were playing a 4-3-3 with Holiday up top as the center striker. She is not a striker, and don't quite get this lineup. She is a midfielder, doesn’t have the pace to play up top.
• Left back klingenberg did not look very good and continually panicked and gave the ball up. She didn’t cover very well.
• The college player morgan brian to me was not very impressive for a holding/defensive midfield and didn’t seem to possess the ball much at all and lost a lot of tackles. For player of the year out of college, I haven’t seen anything special on the womens team from her, but maybe I’m blind.
• O’reilly on the right wing is only good getting up and down the side with speed and crossing the ball, when she’s not doing that she is just a spaz. She was running around like a chicken with her head cut off all night. She needs to settle down, even in the pregame interview she was a complete spaz.
In general, I would expect better play from the top womens team in the world. Very hectic style of defense and seem to just play with high energy and attack attack on d. this unfortunately creates a very impatient style of offense that doesn’t seem to flow. When they should take touches they don’t, when they shouldn’t take touches they do. not much creative play at all. Even without wambach in the first half, their game plan was just smash it forward and then whip it inside.
In my opinion they need to calm down and let the ball do the work, quick touches. I don’t mind the direct play, but too often becky sauerbrunn and Krieger were just banging it down the field. I do think both are very strong players though and when rampone is back, with o’hara probably will be the back line.
