This is not meant as a criticism whatsoever, I just found it interesting. It appears that AFC is still using the NPL as a supplementary league (at least for the 06 Gold girls). This team is playing Athena A and in the NPL, I checked the schedules and there's no overlap, 16 games total this fall. I don't know if the other AFC golds are doing double-duty. I don't believe that UFA or SSA are using the league this way (anymore?). I know there's other AFC teams in NL/Piedmont, so I assume they got a waiver from GA Soccer. This team will be very experienced.

AFC is doing it across the board. Georgia Soccer just picking and choosing who they give waivers too. AFC is not part of the Big 5 SCCL alliance so Georgia Soccer isn't mad at them.

Yep, Athena and NPL for the 06 team this year. AFC tourney, Publix and Disney to boot this fall. If there was more time on the schedule we would probably be playing even more as a team. Love it as a parent and feel we’re getting our monies worth for our daughter. I could care less about the politics of it all.

AFC 05 in Piedmont League and NPL. Like the others said it is across the board. Other states doing it too. CSA South and Discoveries are doing both NPL and Piedmont as well at 05 girls and I have seen other teams in other age groups. It appears Georgia Soccer isn't mad at AFC or AFU yet. Big double standard on Georgia Soccer's part.

I was under the impression that NPL at least on the girls side was about 18 games throughout the year and so many games that require out of town travel ... so good for AFC for giving the girls a full competitive season. Combining local and Regional Travel may not be ideal for some but that’s the trade off.
OR play in an SCCL club ... the girls are playing 28 games in league (isn’t that’s like 50% more games) and all but two games are in ATL the others less than a 2 hour drive.
So how do NPL at UFA or SSA supplement so few league games at NPL do they add even more tournaments?
Why is the perception that NPL is the higher league at UFA or SSA (pyramid doesn’t lie) sounds like NPL means higher club fees, higher travel cost, and less games. I wonder if NPL games are equitable competition or blow-outs?
And once again ... The good news is.
Soccer in Georgia is readily available at every player ability, and every travel interest, and every competitive level option.

Soccer in Georgia is readily available at every player ability, and every travel interest, and every competitive level option. NPL has 13 games in the fall for the U13 and U14 age groups and 5 in the spring. They have 18 for the older age groups just like SCCL. So it somewhat depends on age how the breakdown of number of games differs between NPL and SCCL. The NPL teams also generally go to Jeff Cup in the spring. There will be friendlies as well. Really not that different from ECNL. Last year the U13 ECNL had 11 games in fall and 7 in the spring. As for travel there are 4 out of town trips the whole year so not really a big deal. They group the games together so you generally play 2 games when away. As for competition most games so far in most age groups have been close (2 of fewer goal differential). Of course there are and will always be exceptions. Not sure why the NPL is considered higher. Only time will tell if it is really the "better" league for level of competition or not.
