There are a few more 11v11 teams registered now. The bottom line, though, is that these top teams know they will be Athena A next year. They do not need to play Academy Cup. There are other quality out of state tournaments these teams might want to attend. If the top 6-8 teams stay in state and play Academy Cup, they get the pleasure of playing the same teams they play 2-4 times per season. It is really surprising how quickly quality drops as you get past the top tier, so if the top teams want in-state games against strong competition they must play each other repeatedly. Not that much fun after a while.

i guess in theory its better, its obvious who the top teams are, the question is who is the next 6 - 8 teams. i guess the best thing is to let them battle it out vs have them get beat by a team you already know is top of the group (ie tophat or ufa)

It really depends on the year. When my daughter was playing Academy Cup - three Top Hat teams were there but no Concorde, AFU, UFA, or GSA - all but UFA are ECNL clubs so maybe that's the factor there. Your placement for U13 is really about how your club or DOC presents the teams. They can use how you finished in Academy cup at U12 plus your other record plus how well your DOC presents or lies about the teams. Or in some cases, IF he shows up at all. Academy Cup isn't what it used to be - I liked it better when it was U12 only and was the main way teams got placed for U13. Now it's just another money maker for the state by letting the younger age groups play. President's Cup used to be for Academy teams as well as Select/Athena - not it's just B/Classic 2 and below.

It looks like a few of the top U12 girls teams will be in the Tennessee Soccer Club tourney this weekend - UFA, GSA and Tophat.
