Surprise, Surprise, the MLS and MLS Players Association are at odds when it comes to the recent MLS announcement regarding training compensation and Solidarity payments. I did find the following statement interesting as that is the part that gives an insight as to how it will actually affect the Academy Kids in their quest to make it over to bigger and better leagues [During the coming weeks, every MLS academy player and his parents or guardians will receive notice of this policy and have the opportunity to join informational sessions conducted by MLS club academies. Additionally, each player and his parents or guardians will be required to sign an acknowledgement that if the player signs a contract to play professionally for a non-MLS club outside the U.S. or Canada, his MLS club academy will have the right to claim training compensation from that professional club (not from the player or his family) in accordance with the FIFA regulations.] So what occurs if you don't sign the acknowledgement? Are you dropped from the Academy or do they demand you pay some pittance? What if you have citizenship from another country(Mexico, UK, Spain, Brazil), can you sign, choose to leave and go into another Academy in that country? Do the MLS clubs still get compensated? Will the clubs from other countries, now have to go through your current MLS Academy club to talk, negotiate and sign you? A bevvy of questions are going to rise from this...FG Here is the MLS Statement: MLS Announcement conversely, here is the MLS PA Statement: MLS PA Announcement

Still not clear if non-MLS clubs can get compensation, I've heard mixed opinions.
I think was it more interesting is Gulati at his fair well speech saying training compensation violated US labor laws.....
A big aspect as well is conversation about "domestic" training compensation (almost a different subject entirely)

In lieu of the discussions about our players being poached, getting word that for AU Nat'l Team speedster Zyen Jones is leaving Schalke 04 and returning stateside with the Charlotte Independence of the USL. I wonder if they would have had to pay AU for his training. At $40k for every year of training, that would have been at least $80k. However, if he signs with a US based team, no payments needed...FG
