At the younger age groups it might work, with no emphasis on winning. But by U10, clubs would be putting their best U10.5 kids on the U10 team to try and dominate the competition. And the U10's who are too numerous for the roster would be dropped to a B team, then if they don't have enough players for a U10 A, U10 B and U10.5...U10.5 gets dropped for U10A and U10B. Because clubs tend to want to group the best players together, and really good players want to play with players who can get them the ball and do things with the ball when they distribute it.

Club soccer could adopt this but it's similar to having at least an A and B team. Some clubs have C-F teams where if you look at the rosters i would imagine they primarily aline with birth months. Why would it be like having an a and a b team? It would be no different than having a u6 and a u7. plus the clubs could benefit by having mor teams per year and make more money. A win win situation. Also not a lot of clubs have enough players to split like this. At U9 many of the big clubs only have 1 or 2 teams per location...maybe a third or a fourth team, but not usually. When they do a fourth team they are often having several kids play 2 games to make that happen. Half year age groups would struggle to have enough players.

Maybe as things evolve and the big 5 become the big four and then 3 the clubs could handle it. At the younger ages 6 months makes a huge difference in physical developement. It is a shame that half the kids are shut out only due to their birth dates.

The small clubs would not be able to do half year age groups at all. We were a part of a club who struggled to get enough for a full team with a whole year age group. Some clubs just could not do it.
On one child's current team the best player on the team is a play up and she played up 2 age groups last year and guest plays up 2 age groups now. No question that some have some developmental differences at the young ages, but there are many that are very advanced that are younger and some that are behind that are older.

Yes I agree but half years might actually boost paticipation as the smaller younger kids wont be pounded out by the older stronger kids
