My daughter will be attending the ODP Regional Camp in Alabama next month. Maybe your child has attended this in the past?
I'd appreciate any insight/suggestions/feedback.
Thx!

My daughter did it twice and it was a good experience. This was pre-DA days and being on the regional team was her 1st college coach exposure.
This was also before all the rules we have regarding recruitment.
Its a mentally tough camp, I have chaperoned it and I can tell you that its not easy on some girls. A lot of tears, anger, dissapointment -- they are competing with a lot of girls for very limited amount of spaces.
Overall a good experience, she made a lot of friends in the process from different states

ODP camp is not what it used to be but I would still encourage your player to go as it can be good experience for her as everyone is different. We decided not to attend after our first year because the level of play had dropped and it caused her some frustration.

I’ve been a chaperone on the boys side.
It was good for them to play against kids from other states and see what it’s like to travel as a team away from parents.
It’s fun but can be a little stressful to see who makes the nightly pool games and the region pool. If they make the region pool, they have the chance to be invited to play against other ODP region teams or travel to play international teams.
Bring extra ODP shirts to trade with other players. Some boys sell or trade shoes, jackets, jerseys, hoodies....

Thanks for the insight. They said parents were welcome to (silently- of course) watch morning games from a distance. Is that worth making the trip? Kinda far drive if it means only watching ur kid play like 15 minutes. Not sure how it’s organized and if they have sufficient games to allow all/most players to perform each morning.

Much like the ODP team selection process there are many girls at camp pre-anointed by certain coaches to be selected for the pool games. This camp reinforced the notion that you can only control your effort and the coaches have an adgenda when the show up. Sometimes its not about soccer it's nepotism. Also for the girls side the accommodations are kind of.... well...shizat.

My son did this several years ago and it may have changed. I did not think it was worth the 800 fee for the amount of playing and training. The took so many players to it that they only played 1/2 game then entire day was free time then an afternoon practice and then only if selected did they play in evening. Only a handful of boys were selected for evening games. I supposed a lot of that is for transportation, housing and food which was pretty nice. Playing other teams from other states is good but didn’t get to actually do much of it. The next year we opted to spend money on local camps and private’s that would work on his personal development. I was glad we didn’t because it rained and There was cancellations of trainings and no makeup. They should promote as a tryout vs a camp. Also it would depend a lot if they are taking a limited team and what training they are doing for those that are not selected for the night games.
