Does anyone have any positive (or negative) feedback on some of these recruiting sites that ask for $$ to create a profile of your kid? I've seen Top Drawer, Captain U, NCSA, etc. There are free versions and then paid versions I've seen as well.
Any of these worth it? They seem like a money grab but I'm also clueless on that stuff.

I have been told by some college coaches that they really don't use sites as much as they push them on you. I was told sending emails to the coaches with videos work best and also attending their camps. Was told you also have to be careful about the camps because sometimes those are money grabs.
In my situation with my daughter I signed up for Be Recruited because it was like 90 dollars for 4 years and then signed up for the free program NCSA offered. This was so we could use the 2 in tandem to put your information and videos on the site. We use these to get some of the quick info that is needed instead of looking up every situation one by one.
My daughter is going into 10th grade so the coaches can't really reach out to us directly but we are using this to get on their radar. It has worked so far because we have had coaches come to watch her play

I have yet to hear of any college coach use these websites to recruit. I have also heard Captain U is a scam and coaches don't even see it. Top-drawer is a lot of parents submissions, so its not that accurate I have seen parents shell out a lot of money to this and their camps only to wind up at a local college with a small offer

We've used several of the sites and Coaches contact my kid through CaptainU all the time. He needs to take the time to reply to them, even the schools that he doesn't have on his radar.

I noticed a lot of players who are on top teams are not ranked, meanwhile second team players are ranked pretty high. Thoughts?

Then if you were in Region team you got ranked as well. You can attend one of their camps and they will rank you. I know of a girl who opened an account she was on the 3rd team at her club, she put on there she was on the first team and that she was committed to Auburn as a freshman. None of it was true, but she got stars and ranked. Parents submit their kids info every week and sometimes TDS publishes it. Its very user based, so sometimes as accurate as SINC

CaptainU has been a gateway for communication to college coaches for my son. It's usually initial contact since they give you their school emails and phone numbers to contact them with communication going forward. This communication has led to the coaches coming to showcases in Disney, Raleigh and Richmond to watch him play. This leads to ID camps where you are further evaluated against select players and their current roster.
Is it perfect? NO Do you get tons of information from schools he would never consider attending? Yes
He has multiple friends that have signed D1 offers to Davidson, Maryland, South Carolina, UVA and they have attended many ID camps at those respected universities before any offer was given. Some have used CaptainU, many have reached out to the coaches since 9th grade and have attended camps for 4-5 years.
He has also drawn interest of Universities from ID camps, showcases without the help of CaptainU. It's just a tool.
It's a long journey and we have seen many scenarios, it takes commitment, resources and continuing communication between the coach and the player.

www.talking-soccer.com/TS4/archive/index.php/t-120810.htmlHere's a review from 2014 of CaptainU and other services, it's a mixed bag of likes and dislikes but in the end, its just a tool You and your kid have to do the hardwork of contacting coaches and getting noticed, and remember 9.5 scholarships for 27 boys is not a lot of money.
