I feel for any teams playing on turf in tournaments this weekend. The "Heat Index is going to be in the high 90's then add another 10-15 degrees for the turf. It will be miserable.

seems like an opportunity to test -- can you cook an egg on turf in Atlanta during a soccer game?

I have seen the heat from the turf melt the glue ...

Hopefully they bring up the sprinkles for halftime. Just go old school with a hose and one of those rainbow spinny things we use to run through as kids.

Never had my son's team play there since they turfed it.

A certain reputable soccer shop told me that the Nike glue does worse on hot turf than Adidas.. no idea if true, but I can say that anecdotally, I've seen a lot more of them come apart. Buyer beware!

In regards to the damage shoes. I know for Adidas if the shoe are damaged and they are younger the 2 years old you can send them back and they will issue a credit. I have done this multiple time with Adidas and have had no problems. You can find the born date inside the shoe. I have been told that Nike does the same. Both of my returns where due to the shoe coming apart at the seams. So keep this in mind this weekend if your shoes melt. Don't know if both companies would accept that but with them both trying to win the soccer cleats war I am sure you would get some type of credit

Hubert was back there off of 41, and if it’s still four fields in a square then there’s just no where to hide if you’re in the middle. I’d say get the freezer cold dry towels ready to wrap feet up at half and on the bench.

Was in Hampton on Sunday for the Concorde tournament and it was 100 degrees. Unbelievable. Anyone know what happened as there was an ambulance that was called around 3 pm?

I heard a UFA U19 player was taken by ambulance, he broke his tibia Ouch! That would have made two days in a row as on Saturday at Lovejoy a Concorde U17 girl was carted off with a broken leg. I was a Lovejoy at noon both Saturday and Sunday and it was blazing hot! Multiple players and parents fighting heat exhaustion.

You just hate to hear about any injuries to any kid, especially when they are out of the game for quite some time. Hope for full and fast recovery.

The new turf fields at InterAtlanta are using a coconut husk based filler which is supposed to help mitigate the heat. Don't think the fields are ready for play yet but I will try to get over there and take a look. www.shawsportsturf.com/geofill/

Broken leg at U10 too on Saturday at SSA. The heat was rough. Just curious, was this a turf or grass field? It was grass (and dirt). Two girls collided with each other and the keeper. Lots of allowing kids to go at the keeper this weekend with several minor injuries and the major one stated above. The referees did not control the physicality of the games and some people were encouraging kids to kick at keepers. Personally at the young ages I think if the keeper has even one hand on the ball on the ground that should be considered possession and they should be off limits. Little kids don't have enough body control and are as likely to kick the keeper as they are to kick the ball. (FYI my kid is a forward, not a keeper so this is not for her preservation).

Totally agree. Though I thought they changed it to where one hand on the ball by a GK was considered control and play should be stopped in the attacker still makes an attempt on the ball.

A hand on the ball on the ground is control. Kicking at the ball is caution-able I believe.

That is the rule in every soccer game already. Well I can say that they do not call it that way and haven't for the majority of games I have witnessed in the last 8 years. They only call it possession if the keeper has it "wrapped up." They allowed players to kick the keeper on the ground this weekend while she had a hand on the ball and said she didn't have possession.

Unfortunately I think that many don't pay attention. While neither of my kids play GK officially both have had to at times especially as U8-U10 when there were no designated keepers. Both have been kicked in the hands while the hands are on the ball. I believe that little kids don't have control and the refs don't want to punish them so they don't stop it. I feel for the kids and the refs because I have seen the way parents react when refs make calls that go against their kid or even single out a kid for a warning.
