So was interested to look at DA player retention over a 4 year period. We are starting the 4th season of Atlanta United and the new DA landscape in Georgia. Thought it would be interesting to look at player retention.
Right now I was focusing on the 2002s -- only Atlanta United has publicly presented and shared their rosters as of today. The DA website has not updated each teams roster info yet.
So for Atlanta United's 2002s which are currently u19s. Many are seniors now and in their last year of DA. They started at AU as u14s : How many are left from day 1?
It looks like AU had 23 2002s during the first season 2016-2017 19 were rostered with the 02s, 4 with the u17s. (its worth nothing Bello was one of these 02s, and the 3 other 02s played with the 14s vs the 17s)).
I'll need to double check but it looks like: 4 02s are still listed with the 19s 1 02 is with the first team Total of 5 02s remained since the start.
I have no idea if this is good or bad -- will be interesting to compare to concorde when there rosters become public. If AUs goal is 1 first team homegrown a year than they satisfied their goals with Bello.
That is a 20.8 % retention rate for the start of this season and one is a homegrown with first team minutes to date.
Many of the of the other ~80% of the players that have left AU are still playing successfully on other DA squads - so there was a lot of talent in that original group. Yes year 1 was and odd year because it as based upon a different scouting method than used today, but man regardless of how this team performed in year 1, it still was a talented group on paper.

Great insight on the stats.
AU's model has changed a lot since the first year. No more "try outs" now. Be interesting to see under the new model of "scouting" what those stats look like after this year. We all know the u15/U16 years at AU are the cut years. Seems like they just cut more during those age groups.

Long story short, I often like to look over DA game reports -
Was surprised and discovered Atlanta United is down to only 3 originals 2003s from the first year. That is nuts! Crazy to imagine.
Still need to look over GA United and Concorde, but the GA United original 02 class has kids at UFA, Concorde and AU still balling and going to top notch colleges. Yale Duke Wake UNC Dartmouth
I'm assuming concordes current group of 03s has many who were around at the start, but need to check to be sure.

Concorde has 3 players out of 24 that were AU and are back at Concorde for the 03 group.

UFA also has kids going to UVA, Georgetown (2), Louisville, and I think others. It’s a great year for them.
