Congratulations to our GA players - very exciting to see them come from the various clubs.
interesting that they noted "Sixteen of 20 players have spent at least one season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy" - makes me wonder if that statement is indicative of what's to come from the selection process in the future. Does this mean our ECNL players will come 2nd to the DA players in terms of recruitment.
Would love to hear thoughts on that.

Tech is such a rigorous academic school, Hard on the kids to miss classes and catch up in the present tech majors. A mid week game would be a lot of time away from the University in regards to travel alone. Side note: Ivy's only allow students to miss 5 day's for sports.
I know they have programs that a lot of the football players are in, but they also argue that their football program is hindered bc they can't get the top athletes bc of the academic requirements and difficulty of education.
Sure, would love to see it happen and heard rumors of them starting a 2020 soccer program but that never materialized.

Tech basketball, both men and women, play a weekday game every week during the season. The academics is a lazy excuse. The reason Tech does not have soccer and everyone else does is Title IX. Because Tech's student population is 62% male, it has a much easier time complying with Title IX and making up the 85 football scholarships. The reason that women's soccer was started at many schools (UGA included) was to help bring the school within compliance and to make up for the 85 football scholarships. This is also the reason that many schools do not have men's soccer programs.

I have a lot of respect for Georgia Tech and its academics but there are A LOT of rigorous academic schools that have women's soccer other than the Ivy league schools. Vanderbilt, Duke, Stanford, Rice, Cal, etc. D1 programs actually give students a lot of academic assistance including tutors and every college has some easier classes that you can take while in season if necessary. That is a lame excuse. Very lame. They have softball and baseball and they play way more games than soccer. Basketball does as well. Women's soccer rarely even plays mid week games. It is usually Friday and Sunday.

Yeah, that's silly. Tech has basketball and football. Uh, I don't care how prestigious your non-Ivy League school is, if you're playing D1 in football and basketball, you're allowing student athletes that don't measure up to the rest of the student body. In women's soccer, you get a pretty decent selection of smart/gifted students.

It says she signed an "amateur contract." Does that mean she lost eligibility to go play at UNC?

Agreed that's why it's odd that NWSL partnered with USYS and not USCS My guess is USYS approached NWSL to be the official partner AND paid the price financially to be so. I dont see how it changes anything regarding the league structure in the USA.
