Any insight on why the U12 age group has 13 teams on the girls side and 14 teams on the boys side? All the rest of the age groups are 8 teams in the group?

Girls are supposed to have 16 (8 clubs) and boys are supposed to have 18 (8 + Atlanta United) with each club having 2 teams. At least BUSA and VHSC only have one team for the boys, and some clubs may only have one listing despite having 2 teams.

I haven't been following SCCL as closely as SCCL-P but I couldn't help but notice that Atlanta United was not in the SCCL standings this season. Weren't they supposed to participate in SCCL?

They were scheduled for GYSA U12 Competitive League games but looks like they didn't participate in that league either. Every game listed says it was a 0-0 tie (initially I think it showed AU losing all games by forfeit).

They are participating in both leagues. They must have agreements in place to not post scores. And it's about development anyway so...

AU U12 has a team in SCCL and GA Soccer's U12 Competitive league. (They may actually have 2 teams in SCCL, most of the clubs do.)

Scores for SCCL, no scores for GA soccer Are they playing in two leagues at the same time? If so, isn't that too many games ? (limited recovery, higher risk of injuries...)

They have 3 separate teams; 2 in SCCL and 1 in GA soccer. Most of the SCCL players are 2008s (appropriately) playing u12. I suspect many/most in GA soccer are 2009s playing up in u12.

Ambush is definitely at the same level of competition and can win against the SCCL clubs; they have been playing well for years in this 2008 group. If you want to say ambush, ga rush, IAFC, DDY, Fire, LSA (sorry if I didn’t list the proper top non SCCL-1 u12 teams) are stronger than CF, UFA, NASA, GSA, SSA overall at this age.... that’s going to be a tough sell. I saw enough regular season and tournament games at u11 last year and other tournaments in the preseason this year at u12 when these clubs played each other to know that’s not the case.

baller84 and soccerdad76 I know a player on this Ambush team and the team is very good (as you both mentioned). They have battled the SCCL clubs well in the past (in academy). There is a LOT of boys talent at this age group. I agree with baller84 that this is the last age that there is no DA or ECNL to pull some of the cream of the crop out of the small clubs so there can still be great battles between the GA soccer and SCCL clubs. The problems come later with attrition to DA and ECNL clubs and with difficulty in sustaining the numbers necessary for depth in 11v11 play. We have had experience at small and big clubs. We have watched how attrition affects the small club teams. We have seen whole teams fold within certain age groups as they get into U16 etc because over the course of a few years the best leave for better clubs who have more exposure and the reputation to place players in college etc. Don't forget though that some small clubs can still have great teams due to a great core, solid bench and most importantly a great coach who knows how to play tactics that match the team. I know a young man that played on the Ambush 99 team. He plays in college now at D1. I remember that team having some tough battles against UFA 99. That was before ECNL for boys though...only time will tell how much that and SCCL affect the little guys in the long run.

I think AU clear first choice, and DA with ECNL second provided the right coach will continue to attract the very best. But from what I see, I'm just not convinced on the next best option at this point.

At least BUSA and VHSC only have one team for the boys, and some clubs may only have one listing despite having 2 teams. Some great talent is ready to jump from SCCL to DA/ECNL, but can't help noticing the lack of depth in some clubs. While a drop from that massive movement is to be expected next year, the resulting quality and level variance among SCCL clubs becomes a concern.
