Just received a note that US youth soccer are modifying the rules and allowing casts to worn in games provided they are sufficient wrapped? I think this is a big no no.
Anyone else heard this?

Well whether they have been officially allowed or not, they have been allowed by individual referees over the past several years. My player has been directly subject to a few over the years and one player in a cast with a thin paper style wrap had "hands-up" and provided a shiner that you could see the actual mess outline on the face/black-eye. And of course, no call. So I don't know about anyone else but I have seen it about 7 or 8 times in about as many years.

Yes, they are allowed. They're required to be covered in a slow-recovery foam (memory foam I guess). Implementation will likely vary.

Yes they changed this rule this summer. It’s yet another stupid rule change that US Soccer didn’t care about the consequences. Cast are too deadly even wrapped in bubble wrap.

Pretty sure GA Soccer/USYS was the last man standing on not allowing casts. Please correct me if I am wrong. I know DA allows them. I think US Club Soccer Allows them. Pretty sure College and HS allow them. Pro leagues allow them. Are there still any leagues that don't allow them? They are supposed to be wrapped and deemed safe by the referee at check-in.

Fanatic is right. USSF, not USYS has always left it up to the states to decide. Georgia was the only state that didn’t allow casts period, and this past year changed their rules to allow them.
We should REALLY stop sh*tting on USYS when half the things aren’t even their wrongdoing.

This is Georgia Soccer Youth Rules and Regulations as Amended August 3, 2019: 540.3 Players may wear a cast on the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, upper arm or shoulder if it is covered and padded with a closed-cell, slow-recovery foam padding no less than 1⁄2-inch thick. Before this, casts were not allowed per previous amendment.
